You will need a separate power source. If your boat has any other instruments e.g. outboard engine starter motor, or VHF that requires 12 volt battery you can connect your GARMIN to the Sam'a battery. Otherwise you need to buy one. Such batteries also need recharging at least once a month even if you don't use them. I charge mine at least every ten days. Good luck with finding lots of fish.

wat battery do you need for this item

well i have two np7-12 yuasa 12 volt,7.0ah joined to make 12 volt brought from amazon then a cable from the outboard to charge them but you can go one full day with out a outboard that charges as you have two of these small batteries joined together will last all day no problem but i would not just have one. as i dont think it would last cheers
