Economic Foam Roller for basic purpose
I am new to Foam Roller but I had been searching for a good one for couple of months and thats when Amazon launched Amazonbasics Foam Roller. I was double minded for several hours but then after a lot of thought into it I bought AmazonBasics High Density Round Foam Roller, 18-inches (Black) for 513₹ I was hesitant because I didn't know whether they would price it even lesser during lightning deal.I came to know about Foam roller after I went for physiotherapy. I suffered an injury on my left leg which cut off all tendons. After 6 years I felt pain on my calves and hamstrings which made me visit physiotherapist, they found that the muscles on those areas have weakened and need massages. I discussed with my brother and he suggested to go forward with Foam Roller exercises, but I wanted an economic one too so my waiting finally gets answered thanks to Amazon. Before I talk more about this product I would like to enlighten people who don't know anythin about Foam Roller(as I did several months back). What are foam rollers::Foam rollers are exercise devices used for massage and fitness. ... When used for self-massage, they help soothe tight, sore areas (known as “trigger points”) and speed up muscle recovery. This process of rolling out tight muscles and relieving tension is also called myofascial release. In simple they help to loosen up your muscles. There are two generic types of foam rollers, an EVE high density foam roller and an EVA foam roller.EVA rollers are very soft and will flatten in within a year of solid use. Where as an EVE roller is much firmer and will last several years of abuse. Usually a roller made out of EVA is white where as the high density ones will generally be black. That said, of course it’s possible to make an EVA foam roller black. The easiest way to tell is to look at the texture. A high density foam roller will have small pellets where as an EVA will be smooth. Sometimes EVE rollers are referred to as molded this is primarily a marketing tactic.Clarification in detail ::There are 3 types of Foam rollers:::1.White foam roller::White foam roller are for starters. White foam rollers are often made of a piece of polyethylene foam and they are the least dense, so they will allow some movement between the muscles, bones and the roller. Foam rolling can be painful at the beginning because tight muscles are pushed upon with your full body weight. A white foam roller will produce less pressure and less pain.2.Blue or green Foam Roller::Lightly colored foam roller for advanced core-stabilization or a medium amount of massage pressure. These blue or green foam rollers are often made of closed cell polyethylene foam or EVA foam and they are common in Pilates classes.3.Black foam roller::If you are very experienced using a foam roller or desire hard pressure for self-massage. Although most black foam rollers are also made of polyethylene foam, they are closed cell and manufactured under high heat, making them smoother, denser and less porous. We have lesser option to choose with Amazonbasics as they are providing Pro version of Foam Roller, but I want to invest my money only 1 time so I am going forward with this anyway.Foam Roller sizes::12 inch=30.48cm,18 inch=45.72cm,32 inch=81.28cm,36 inch=91.44cm12 inch are for travellers who want to carry it with you18 inch is pretty big enough32 inch or 36 inch if you want to work your back with ease at cost of space in your roomI have seen 12,18 and 36 inch in Amazon.com but here in India as of now only 2 variants 12 and 18. I went with 18 inch as I want to check if it suited for back roller exercise also as for sure 12 wont be sufficient.Things you should and shouldn't do::1.Check out many youtube videos get an idea as to how to work it. If not you could hurt yourself2.PLEASE DO NOT DO THE EXERCISE THAT YOU SEE(in youtube videos) FOR MORE THAN 20 seconds(for a particular area) when you are starting your routine. Take it slow.3.Increase the time for each area on a weekly basis or monthly basis according to your age and health.4.Once you do for area go on to next area. Like fitness you can't loosen up muscle within a day. Those muscles had been tightened by ages. My calf and hamstring have tightened after 6 years of wear and tear.5.Do regularly to achieve the aim you want6.Dont exert pressure on one area for long time, not only because you can't mend the wear and tear in one day but also because if you exert pressure or focus on one area that area is going to get hurt even more and THE PURPOSE OF FOAM ROLLER IS LOST.7.If you were a athlete/body builder/fitness freak you know for sure that the first day you take it light, like wise take it slowly and lightly and then gain momentum over a period of time.8.Dont Spend too much time on KNOTS(The tissue that connects your muscle to your bone is called the fascia, and because so many trigger points occur in deep tissue, muscle knots are also sometimes called myofascial pain)::It's OK to work on your knots using the foam roller, but if you spend five or 10 minutes on the same spot, you could cause damage to the tissue or nerves.9.Dont roll too fast::Your movements on the foam roller should be slow and concentrated. If you roll too fast, your muscles won't have time to adapt to and manage the compression, and you're not going to eliminate adhesion.Places it could help loosen the tight muscles::1.Calves2. Hamstrings3.Back4.Quads5.Outer thighs6.Shoulders and sides7.Butt7 Common Pains that Foam Rolling Fixes::1.Lower back pain2.Upper back pain3.Heel pain(I have because I am a flat footer)4.Shoulder pain(back side and front side)5.Shin pain(mainly for runners)6.Achilles tendon pain7.Knee painBenefits of foam roller::1.Can be used to loosen muscles2.Can be used for exercise3.Can be used for yoga posturesI purchased this because of 3 things::Need to loosen up my calves and hamstrings and save myself, economic pricing, exercise with it.Now you may read other reviews or google for yourself and decide for yourself whether to buy it or not. I hope I have been able to provide at least a slight insight or knowledge about foam roller. To understand the size I have compared it with Logitech Keyboard MK 320(wireless):: AmazonBasics High Density Round Foam Roller, 18-inches (Black) is Slightly lengthier than the keyboard so 12 inches might be either equal in length to the keyboard or smaller. The Roller is really light weight like the thermocol. Please don't expect it to be heavy at all.Durability::That remains to be seen in long term. Will update on any issue if it arises. Hope nothing comes up.If you are looking for economic Foam roller that suits your needs look no where just buy this one, else if you want very good looking(like macho look and all),heavy roller go for some other roller.Doubts that I too had ::1. There is PVC type roller why not buy it?If you’re new to this, a PVC pipe is going to hurt. Sure, all foam rollers will be uncomfortable particularly when you first start. A PVC pipe won’t be uncomfortable, it will hurt. There is no easing into it, and as a result you won’t pause to let those trigger points dissipate, you’ll use it less frequently and for a shorter periods of time.2.Is this one worth the cost because it is light weight as thermocol and feels like it?Only after usage for several months can I answer it in the most accurate manner.3. Then why buy this?I could try how it goes, how much pain decreases and decide if I will be doing it on a longer term. Also I don't want to shell out a large amount without understanding it properly. This could give me basic idea and help myself do better. If you found my review resourceful please click helpful. Thanks in advance.
