Simply AWESOME boots. I'm now a big fan of this ...
Simply AWESOME boots. I'm now a big fan of this Salewa company. I was previously a fan of Asolo company for boots, however, my recent 2 pairs fell apart in no time at all and Asolo wouldn't help me out. I had purchased one of those pairs in Spain and Asolo said i had to return them in the country where they were purchased....ummm, ok i'll just go with a different company next time. I tried several other brands and decided to give these Salewa boots a try. I love these boot!. They are very comfortable and seem to be extremely well made. Gore Tex, simple design, stable, supportive. I notice the toe box flares out compared to the foot bed which gives plenty of room for wider foot profiles. You won't regret these.

Sizing matters.
I've used this for light hiking (35lb) pack on 3 multi-day pack trips so far this spring. I will say several of the reviews stated to size up. I generally wear a size 10.5, and went to 11. They are slightly to big in the toe box, but an aftermarket (superfeet) insole and thicker hiker sock take up most of that. I ordered a 2nd pair with intent to send the 11s back, but will keep them now that I've used them and wear them early spring and late fall with thick socks. The 2nd pair (10.5) fits my feet perfectly. I have flatter feet, just over regular and just under EE, so the regular fit of these designed with wider toe box is a great pairing for those types of feet.I really like the heel cup and ankle support of this light weight hiker. I usually wear Kenetrek, full leather, due to poor ankle support, but these tighten down well and support well with my lightweight pack so far. I read a couple reviews that state the eyelets are poorly made and bend.... I would say likely those individuals are pulling way to hard on the laces. I adopted a technique of synching on the first set of speed eyelets across the top of the foot, then skipping the 2nd set and wrapping the top ankle support eyelets; then going back down and finishing with the middle set to snug ankle supports against the middle of the ankle and not the top. It works great, keeps the heel locked in, and you don't have to pull so tight on the lacings.Hit some very rocky terrain, and the foot bed is not as padded as a Kenetrek, but its a lighter boot and my feet didn't feel to bad, just noticed it after a 8 mile day. I believe this is break-in requirements and believe the boot will mold to the feet in time. I would definitely buy a few more pair, assuming that at this price point if they only last a couple years they are still comparable in price to an expensive all leather for cost vs. time, plus they weigh much less.Happy hiking!

Lightweight yet solid support
Good boot with extra width in toe box to reduce toe blisters. Ankle support is solid and overall weight is lower than most boots with that support. Added my aftermarket insoles which give me more underfoot padding and overall stability. Fit was still generous enough to handle.

Stiff sole is great for those with arthritis of the big toe!
These shoes accommodate my orthotics and have a uniquely stiff sole that protects my arthritic big toes from bending. They are very comfortable as well. Unfortunately, Salewa's second version of the Mountain Trainer is a tighter version of the original and does not work for me, so I was glad to find the original Mountain Trainer. Be careful to get the US and not British size, because the US size is a size larger than the British size.

Poor customer service
Boots didn't fit properly and the soles were very awkward as small rocks and stones get stuck in the sole. I almost broke my ankle in them. After sending them back to the seller, they approved my return but have exceeded the refund guarantee date far over a week. Buyer Beware.

Best boots ever.
I like narrow mountain profile. Took them out of box and hiked Yellowstone trails, 24miles/3000 elevation every other day for 8 days with 5 - 10 miles on interval rest days. Of course had to use my own insoles which I make to fit my 76 year old rockclimber/mountaineer feet. I immediately bought a second pair. Have 200 miles on them and still best boots ever owned. Happy trails

You will be 150% happy with ease shoes.
I have had at least 6 pair of these type of shoes over the last 4 years. Absolutely the very best made any where.

Nice boots with some finish quality flaws.
Great, universal pair of walking / hiking boots with some finish quality flaws.+ The fit and size is very good (size UK7)+ 3F system for better ancle support+ Great lacing system+ Vibram soles+ 1-day delivery through Amazon Prime+ Easy replacement procedure with Amazon, new pair that should arrive within next working day- The boots were poorly finished inside (images attached) (the finish quality is much poorer than my girlfriend's £30 Karrimor boots)- The 'MULTI FIT FOOTBED' (MFF) boot insoles weren't included in the box, despite are presented on the images for this listingUpdated 29/11/2019I increased my score from 3 to 4 stars for quick reply I received from Salewa - they replaced now MFF with Ortholite insole; also you can extend the warranty to 3 years through online registration. However, I had to send 2nd pair back as the internal finish of the boot is still disappointing, comparing with other top boot manufacturers; replacement pair was also very narrow.End of story, goodbye Salewa.

Lovely Boot
So, i am usually a Mammut kind of guy but thought I would try another brand. I consider myself as an "intermediate" Hiker/climber so this review will be based from my activity. So, out of the box i completed a fairly technical 15.5 mile hike up and down cliff edges and coastal paths (a section of South West coast path) to break them in and i can say overall i am pleased with this boot, but there are some drawbacks to them. I will start with the positives, the boot looks purposeful, is very waterproof and warm (torrential rain and 40mph headwind for most of the hike) and the boots held up well and best of all NO BLISTERS! The boot is relatively comfortable too initially. The stiff sole helped on the steep climbs and descents and the lacing system held my feet in place. I take a 10.5 but bought an 11 and had plenty of room available. So, the bad bits: The boot feels a little heavy and is very stiff but, but i am still breaking them in. The sole feels like you are walking with boards under your feet and as a result the underside of my feet felt tender and a little bruised the day after. The boot had little to no grip across wet rocks and found myself slipping a fair bit. The lacing system is brilliant, but fiddly, when putting the boots on you catch the laces in the wrong eyelets which was frustrating.I will try and remember to update my review after a few more hikes, hopefully drier conditions but overall i am pleased with the boot and will try some inserts to ease up the feel of bruising. I would recommend if you do a mixture of technical mountains and occasional sunday stroll, but if you are a sunday stroll walker i would not recommend these for you. I feel my crampons will work well with these boots also for the alpine climbs.

Love these shoes
Excellent quality shoe at winning price. This is my second pair. Sizing is slightly small, need to be one UK size up from measured 11 to order 12. Love these shoes.

Great shoe, poor sizing.
I've given 5 stars because this product looks and feels quality. WARNING. The first pair I ordered at size uk10.5 were labelled uk10.5 but we're actually UK 10. I had to return them and order size UK 11.

Narrow on the instep but wider in the fore foot
I already have the Salewa crow gtx (crampon compatible) and wanted a less stiff boot for hiking/walking. Salewa are a wider fit so the crows fit my feet, however the mountain trainer is far narrower on the instepand was uncomfortable for me. I had to return as a result but was a great shame as a nice looking boot and was a great fit for my wider foot at the ball of the foot. If they fit you then would be a good hiking/walking choice as well made boots.
