Tried sprouting these with no luck, they just got mushy. Has anyone had any luck sprouting these? If so, what was your technique?

I tried sprouting too and failed. Turns out most oat groats are steam processed! So have to buy oats that are specifically sproutable.

How do I prepare oat groats for morning hot cereal for 2 servings on the stove top? (1/2 cup groats and how much water?)

It's THE best hot cereal for me. I bring the groats and water, some milk and salt...dates, brown sugar or tiny amount of maple syrup to a near boil then simmer on low from about 35-48 miniutes---it depends upon how chewy you like your groats. I love old fashioned oatmeal too and Irish oats but the full groats supercede the others! Toss some fruits in if you like besides dates (raisins, peaches...blueberries...)
