We have purchased a few different sets of chips from other vendors over the past year. This set is the best of them all. There is a nice variety of different woods and you can actually smell the differences in the species. My husband was very pleased with this set.

When I ordered these I was so happy to be getting such a variety of woods to use for smoking cocktails. I had purchased smoking wood chips before from a different company and had such a good experience. I opened the Oak Wood to use for my smoked Old Fashioned. The minute I went to take a sip I noticed a very perfumy scent, with a "piney" sort of a smell. It totally ruined my drink. I have never felt the need to throw out perfectly good bourbon, especially expensive bourbon. But I had to throw out my drink. Work of all, it took a lot of effort to rid the screen on the smoker of the smell. I opened the rest of the tins to see if it was just a fluke, but no. They all smell like they have been infused with a scent. They most certainly do not smell like the real wood they claim to be. My husband is a forester and he even noted that the woods all pretty much looked the same. Anyone who knows anything about wood, knows that they all have different color, texture and scent properties. These may be good to add to your fire place, but don't smoke your drink with them.

I ordered these chips for smoking cocktails (old fashioneds in particular). I was curious about all the different kinds of wood. The 8-pack has HUGE containers. I mean really really large (see photos for comparison to other brands).I'm not sure if the wood chips are somehow artifically enhanced, but the wood has a strong smell, stronger than other wood chips I have. I'm also unsure if the jars were supposed to have a freshness seal, but all of my jars have one stuck to the lid rather than the jar itself.The chips themselves are larger than wood chips from other brands. This makes them slightly harder to light and they burn for longer than smaller chips. This doesn't seem to have a noticeable effect one way or the other.Overall, these chips make a great smoked old fashioned. Looking forward to experimenting with multiple woods and potentially smoking food too!

They all have a terrible chemical smell like lighter fluid that will affect taste. I like natural wood chips with no artificial accelerants when smoking cocktails. Will not buy again.
