GREAT lp from Ratt
as a fan still of US hair metal band Ratt since the 1980's depsite expanding my music tastes into well everything really : classical, jazz, electronica, blues, weird stuff. Ratt remain one of hte best bands from the peak era Hair metal bands such as Van Halen, Motley Crue, Poison etcDetonator is the much underrated fifth studio album by American glam metal band Ratt, released in August 1990.though their previous album Reach for the Sky went platinum, it met with some criticism regarding the quality of their songs. In an attempt to regain the popularity that Ratt had in the mid-1980s, the band parted ways with long-time producer Beau Hill. Hitmaker Desmond Child were hired to helm the project. Detonator has catchier songs and heavier than on the previous 3 lps : Reach for the Sky (pretty weak overall), Dancing Undercover (pretty good and heavy but lacked enough great tunes) and the overrated Invasion of Your Privacy (actually pretty patchy despite having the monster tracks Your in Love and Lay it Down on it) .Detonator really is one of Ratt's best lp s , perhaps their best just behind their full length lp Out of the Cellar with at least 6 stand outs classics tracks : Hard TImes, All or Nothing, Cant Wait on Love, and personal favourite the rollickingly heavy Top Secret (equal to the huge riff of Your In Love-yes really) Heads i WIn tails you Lose, plus good catchy fm tracks Shame,Shame,Shame and Lovin you s a Dirty Job. an excellent lp that despite listening to a whole range of music in 2015 - still excites and reminds me of why Hair Metal ruled the world once. in a word heavy AND fun. buy also Ratt - 81 91 the best of collection if you don t have the earlier lp s . 81 91 is excellent and has 19 tracks unlike some of the cash-in later compilations.BUY. catchy, heavy and memorable - like grunge and thrash didnt exist..

Such an underrated album
Although the name Ratt won't be all that familiar to every classic rock fan, unless of course you are of a certain age, these guys made some good music, and 'Detonator', released at the start of the 1990s, was probably their finest moment. The band enlists the talents of proven hit maker Desmond Child (the man behind such classics as 'Livin' on a Prayer', 'Bad Medicine', 'Dude (Looks Like A Lady) and Bonnie Tyler's recent Eurovision entry 'Believe In Me'), who collaborated on most of the tracks here. Excellent songs include the infectious 'One Step Away', the underrated power ballad 'Givin' Yourself Away', 'All or Nothing', and the very cool 'Lovin' You's a Dirty Job', which was the album's first single. If you enjoy hair-metal, you should love most of what you hear on 'Detonator'. The album will never be regarded as a masterwork of the genre, but my God it's fun. Give it a try!

almost 5 stars
Ratt fans don't seem to give this album as much credit as it deserves. Desmond Child is involved which means a couple of sentimental ballads that aren't that great. But there is more punch in the sound on this album and some really hard rocking songs. In terms of consistency I would say this album is second only to Out of the Cellar. Ratt were about to sink along with all the other hair metal bands but this album is well worth checking out.
