The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything: A Halloween Book for Kids

My 3 (nearly 4) year old LOVES this story and I can see it being a fave for many halloweens to come!

A friend of ours bought this book as a gift for my kids. We were dubious about it at first because they were little. It didn't take long before they fell in love with it. We ended up making a game of it as we read the story and it took the "scary" out of it.

This is a great book to use to teach TFL to young learners, introducing Autumn, Halloween and clothes vocab. I have used it for quite a whie now, hence requiring a newe copy of the book!

This book is amazing

Great story to get the children to join in and recognising words. And make funny noises. My daughter loved it. Great one for Halloween.

great kids book

I rotate what books we read to our 4yr old son depending on the seasons and holidays; we decided this was a good time to introduce him to this book. It's a story about a brave lady walking late in the evening collecting nuts and herbs. While she is on her way home, she comes across some "haunted" items (clothing and a pumpkin head), and the items follow her home. At the end of the book, she uses the items to make a scarecrow.She meets the items one by one. For example, "two shoes that go CLOMP CLOMP." Then she is followed by some pants, so the verse grows to "two shoes that go CLOMP CLOMP, one pair of pants that go WIGGLE WIGGLE" and so on. The repetition of the verses make it very easy for a child to remember the words after reading it through just once. When I read it to our son, I added motions so he would understand the meaning of the words, such as "NOD, NOD" with nodding my head.I also liked the problem-solving aspect of the story. Instead of letting fear take over, the little old lady holds her ground, and finds something constructive for the haunted items to do.A similar tale of bravery that I recommend is  There Are Monsters Everywhere  about a little boy who finds a way to overcome his fear of monsters in the house.

My daughter asks for us to read this book all the time.The premise is that a little old lady travels into the woods to gather supplies. On her way home, she comes across an assortment of things that try to scare her. This includes boots, pants, gloves, and pumpkin head. Each item has a fun interactive component, like clapping, wiggling, shaking, and saying boo. In the end, the parts come together as a scarecrow and scare the crows away.This is a great book for young kids. It has a fun art style, interactive parts, a Halloween theme, and shouldn't be scary for most kids. Highly recommended if you are looking for an enjoyable but not too spooky Halloween book.

Get this book. It's awesome. It's so good that I don't even mind reading it six times back-to-back.

Ce livre est très sympa pour se mettre dans l'ambiance d'halloween mais aussi pour vaincre ses peurs grâce au personnage incarné par la veille femme qui n'a peur de rien. Un livre qui se lit facilement et en rythme des sons des bruits (chaussures, T shirt, etc) de manière amusante. Ça plaît beaucoup aux enfants. Et la fin est très surprenante! Belle surprise. Livre en anglais plein d'humour.

Una historia sencilla, perfecta para contarla, dramatizarla con l@s niñ@s, practicar la secuencia, el ritmo, ampliar el vocabulario,...

Bellissimo libro, bei disegni e colori. Testo in lingua inglese ma di facile comprensione, ricco di vocaboli alternati a suoni onomatopeici per attirare l'attenzione dei bimbi. A parer mio adatto anche a bambini di 5-6 che iniziano a leggere in inglese ma anche a bimbi di 3-4. Formato mefio-grande, perfetto per il periodo autunnale ma che ha insita in se la morale per la quale non bisogna aver vergogna di dire "ho paura" nè di fare i gradassi.. La paura fa parte di noi, come di questa vecchia signora che diceva di non aver paura di niente.Spedizione e imballo perfetti giunto in 2 giorno.
