Q: Can this be used with a condenser mic?

No. To power a condenser mic you need to apply phantom power. However, the CT 1 needs phantom power to operate, which prevents that power moving further along to the mic so it will not be powered. The CT 1 is used for low gain dynamic microphones to negate the need to increase gain on the mixer itself which arises feedback. It does an excellent job in that role. Hope this helps

No, you need a second mic cable to use it.

Q: Does my mixer need to have phantom power for this to work? I have a sm58 mic plugged into a pioneer djm s9 but the mixer preamp is not great.

Yes, they’ll need phantom power to boost the signal - I’m using the cheapest version with a behringer usb mixer and I don’t think it offers more than around 18v of phantom power but it works great. So as long as your mixer/interface has some level of power running to the device, it will work great.
