The Godzilla Art of KAIDA Yuji

Awesome collection of art
I was somewhat familiar with the artist because I believe one of his art of the 1954 Godzilla breaking through the Power lines was used back on the now-defunct website Monster Zero. Upon reading this book, one of his artworks made a CD compilation and a lot more were discovered about the Showa, Heisei, Millennium series and Shin Godzilla and the anime trilogy. There is an impressive art of Monsterverse Godzilla fighting Monsterverse Ghidorah that, plus some of the Shin Godzilla arts, is alone worth the price of this book. Highly recommended for Godzilla fans, some incredible artwork in here.

Beautiful Godzilla Art
Beautiful Godzilla artwork from a gifted artist. Some of these works have graced book and magazine covers, there are some excellent pencil sketches and there is a also nice interview at the end. The pages are slick but as other reviewers have described this is a paperback and the binding could be better, but for approx $20 this is a wonderful collection of art and I am happy with it.

Great for godzilla fans
The art in this book is absolutely amazing. There's even detailed descriptions of each artwork at the end of the book. Definitely worth buying it. (cool little detail is that they messed up some godzilla info on page 51).

Decent amount of content for the Western market
If you're not new to Yuji Kaida's works, you're not going to find anything new here. Most of this is only a small part of his larger Japan-only books and collections of Godzilla artwork, so you're going to find it to be full of repeats from his previously published books. If you're new to Yuji Kaida's works, you're in for a treat. However, the publisher seems to have skipped out on a lot of his grander pieces for some odd reason; chibi art, marketing work, and color swaps that don't compare to his other digital paintings. It honestly gives a slightly paltry interpretation of his entire collection, sadly.

Great Art
Very nice introduction to artist Yuji Kaida who has done a lot of Toho monster illustrations dating back to the late 80's for things as diverse as Laserdisc sleeves to magazine covers to model kit box art. This book includes both full color paintings and digital illustrations as well as b/w line art. The range of illustrations covers the entire range of Godzilla movies from 1954 to the US and animated movies of the last few years. There's several arguably better books about the artist from Japan but are much costlier and harder to procure.Only complaint is this soft cover book is the cover binding which because it's about an eighth of an inch oversized on all corners, is easily dinged. Also, some illustrations are spread landscape style over two pages making the art in the center gutter binding hard to see without damaging the book.

“G” Wow
The cover art enticed me to buy this book. So my expectations were pretty high. But in a percentage of “love” and “that’s nice” the take away is 40/60. When the art is great, it’s a total knockout, but when it’s only so, so, it’s underwhelming. Plus entire half pages, where copy could have gone is collected in a gallery at the end of the collection. Perhaps the intent is an art museum experience? Pages and pages of Godzilla and his Rouges Gallery of characters, but a better context of understanding, materials used, and artists decisions would really help fill this book a complete knock out.

Top Tier Art Trash Tier Production
The art in this book is glorious but its frequently cropped with black bars. The construction of the book is also so incredibly cheap I questioned whether or not I would return the dumb thing. While this looks like a hardback its actually made with soft materials and a weird overlap that I guarantee will bend and tear overtime with being stood up.I cannot recommend this outside of the diehard Godzilla fan who has to have everything no matter how overpriced and cheaply it is made.
