Brilliant!
Me and wood just don't go together and I never cut a piece of wood straight. I needed to shave about 5mm off my new living room door. No way was I going to plane that off by hand, so bought this. Easy to use and did the job so quickly and neatly too. Saved a lot of hard work and I would recommend this tool.

This bit of kit has been really useful. I bought it to plane down some doors after we had several new carpets fitted. Worked a treat and saved me a fair bit of cash, more than paying for itself in the first job. If you are using the plane on the bottom of the door, think about pinning some wood to the outer edges of the corners you are planning to temporarily extend the width of the door as this helps to stop the ends of the door splintering as the plane passes over.I managed to bust the blade when planning some recycled timber for a rustic table top and I went over a nail. The blade was very easy to replace and did not require lots of precision set up.Controls are easy to use and the tool always feels in control when you use it.It does make a lot of dust and other reviews complain about the cost of the dust bag. I made my own out of an old pair of tights, some soft wire to make a frame and a big elastic band to hold it on. Not perfect but it does catch a lot of the dust. Think a pop sock that ends up looking like a wind sock!As my cheap tools wear out I am tending to buy Bosch replacements and I have not had a bad one yet. May not be a professional builder’s first choice but if your woodwork goes beyond banging a nail into two bits of wood this is a really useful bit of kit to have in the shed.

Very good product for me.
For me, more than adequate for DIY jobs and not a bad price. I had a much older Bosch model which was used on doors, some chairs and other sundry jobs before it expired from use - and the newer model is a nice improvement via the calibrated depth/cutting adjuster and feels better in my hands. Things to note:a- if you're new to using a planer start low on the setting and do more runs - as others have recorded, getting to the ends of the wood can cause splits and chips. Best put an end-block on, so the planer blade has resistance. Or come back the other way. Sometimes also use masking tape on painted edges to try and prevent paint chips - but with care, as the planer blade won't appreciate sticky tape!Remember, you can plane it off but not back on.b- get some spare blades in stock. I have hit sunken metal and the blades whilst robust for wood, will get notched by nails etc. The blades are easily changed.c- these tools do generate a lot of dust and are best used outside. I've not found the bags to be that good/effective - I have yet to hook up a vacuum cleaner and see what this brings.Another plus is that it's lightweight and the power cord is long enough to allow a decent reach. I have used the new model on the top of a wooden front door in situ.

Much improved.
Works very well and connects directly to vacuum cleaner. Much improved with easy depth of cut control. Much better than older planer I had previously.

Internal doors
I spend some time researching planers, it wasn’t a purchase I wanted to make as I was only fitting one internal £25 B&Q door. I actual followed some great tips on YouTube on sizing the door I.e take the old one and mark off the difference... so far so good, but the door was warped and no matter what I did I could line up the two doors.. honestly nightmare. Any case using my trusted circle saw I made the cuts.. nice, fitted the locks and hinges.. so far so good.... the door didn’t fit after all that. Two options continue and cut the door using the trusted saw or get a plane.. the issue is cutting at a slight angle and ending up with a smooth cut. I think I could have done that but two different faces out.. I checked out a load of these.. price ranging from 28 to 180 pounds. I was going to get the cheaper end, but it seems you have to go back to the suppliers to get replacement blades. So that ruled out the cheaper brands. Bosch is good brand and this one was £60 ish pounds. Wow.......... fantastic pce of kit honesty it’s not noisy, and it did the door in not time.. a real pleasure to use. I hooked it up to my nitflex t22 wet and dry vacuum. NO dust. If your looking get it.. I will look forward to using this again when the wife wants to change all the doors to oak...

Brilliant piece of kit
I accidentally took the head off a sunken screw whilst planing a gate post with this planer and it just went straight through it without causing any damage to the blade.Only downside is that the maximum depth it can plane is only 1.5mm but I guess you get what you pay for

Excellent from Amazon Warehouse
I have no idea why this was in the warehouse, but it was and it was stupidly cheap. It loses a star because there's no carrying case so it sits in its original cardboard box. However all it needed was the base plate protection to be put back in place (a little red piece of plastic it rests on when finished) which dropped off in transit. I used this for the first time today to pane the top of a door tat wouldn't close. It took 3 passes and the job was done. It did chuck out a bit of wood shavings ...more than you would imagine for such a small job, but they were easy to clear up. Also a bit more dust than maybe anticipated, but there was no doubting how easy to use it was, and what fantastic job it did for the top of the door. This is one of those 'nice to have ' tools rather than must have ones, and I could have used a sander for the same job but it would have been a longer and far dustier job. It's up to the usual very high Bosch quality so I'm very happy I opted for Bosch.
