It states max weight 400lbs, that's not even 200kg which products on here for half the price Syste they can lift. Is this really the max weight?

The recommended weight is 400lbs. We move American Fridges, which are just shy of 200kg . I should think you could lift over 200 kg, or as much as you can lift with your legs . Great bit of kit.

Can these be used to carry a large table top on its edge, it can not go through doors carried flat.

It was not easy to balance a mattress on its side. I think the thinner the item the more difficult it will be to balance it. It will ease the weight to carry heavy items but your back may hurt afterwards. If you are used to carry heavy objects this will help to reduce the weight pressure and back pain. Also, the shoulder strap it is easier to use if both people are of similar height and strength and I found the straps too thin cutting into our bodies making it uncomfortable to use.
