Makes driving easier & safer
I rate this a 5, which I rarely do, because of the customer service. I asked a ton of questions before I purchased which were always answered politely and quickly. As I purchased this to compensate for the blind spots in a van with no windows I needed rear facing side cameras. I was sent replacement cameras for the forward facing side camera quickly for no charge. Something you rarely see these days.Installation it is relatively easy. I was a bit intimidated at first but had no troubles for the most part. The hiccups I encountered were due to my own stupidity, lack of a short screwdriver and a second pair of hands. All of which were easily rectified as I encountered them. Honestly, the only thing that gave me pause was the moment I had to drill a large hole into the van for the mount. However, any concern with leaks was rectified with silicone tape and lots of silicone caulking. There was a review on here of “expect a lot of soldering”. I don’t know what that was about. The only soldering I can see necessary is the soldering of the power cable to the cigarette lighter cord. There are optional leads that automatically make the corresponding view full size when you turn on your blinker, break, etc. That would produce extra soldering but as I did want to mess with the van’s engine/electronics it didn’t come into play.I chose this configuration due to the reason for purchase - safety. I considered wireless but between potential signal lag/interruption at a critical moment and the fact you have to wire the power for wireless anyway I went with wired camera. Running the wires for the camera is the easiest part of the installation. The cameras are solidly built and the resolution is good. The only issue I had with front/back camera is the cord is run outside the mounting bracket’s center hole. As I wanted to use silicone tape to improve the water seal I needed to use the center mount hole. This necessitated unscrewing the camera from the mount to feed the cord thru the mount’s center hole. This is where my stupidity came in – I reassembled it up side down. If you do this take note of the position of the green dot and reassemble appropriately. The monitor has a good resolution and I love the fact it has a glare shield around it. I notice a very slight ¼” vertical rainbow line that goes from one side to the other. However, unless your staring at the screen you don’t notice it. Additionally, from my experience with customer service I have no doubt they will replace the monitor if something goes wrong with it.If your looking for a camera system to reduce stress while driving, improve safety and provide evidence in case of an accident I highly recommend this unit. It’s more expensive than a simple rearview mirror mount and involves more work installing. However, it’s not overly complicated to install and provides 360 degree coverage. Additionally, a rearview mirror camera does absolutely nothing about blind spots. The area that is most likely to involve an accident. This is well worth the price and time of installation. All the items I used for the installation were purchased from Amazon. Reliable After A Year Of Use
I added this to provide external cameras for a skoolie. The rear cam is wired to the backup lights and the right one to the right turn signal. The sides and rear are mounted externally at the roofline, while the final one is on the dash so I can rotate it forward or reverse it to see the inside. All have proven to be waterproof and able to handle the vibration from the stiff suspension without malfunction.Cons:- Too much rain results in blurry pics.- Night vision is often hit or miss in urban areas, especially, due to flashes from ambient lighting or vehicles- Occasional lines happen and vanish, especially when first switching to a cam- Mounting instructions might have included an extra bit of help for the wiring harness- A bit bright at night in darker environments (I rotate it away)Pros:- Excellent daylight pics- Good backup guidelines superimposed on the read view when in reverse- Durable, large monitor is easily viewed without distracting eyes from the road overlong- Flexible mounting, including for the monitor- Easily wired with a bit of thought for the purpose of the harness wiresI have not used the recording function and will check with an update back when I do. For now, the cams are intended as driving aids and, rarely, as ways to check the exterior of the vehicle at site.I wired the system to the coach batteries (12v lithium system) without issue and run them off a switch in the coach. This happened because my first attempt at using the automotive battery resulted in needing a jump even with the monitor turned off, possibly due to the drain from the computer in the system remaining on. The coach electrical is much larger and designed for ongoing loads, so that has worked fine. If you wire to your auto system, I recommend and switch inline so you can completely shut it down just in case. Note that this will mean the computer loses track of time between activations.I like the appearance of the cameras and the monitor. The former are subdued and aerodynamic, blending well with the exterior of my vehicle. The latter is modern and unobtrusive while hanging above the center windshield, where it can be rotated away from my face when not needed, or pointed conveniently at me.I experienced one problem while changing some wiring, which turned out to be a faulty ground in my wiring. During troubleshooting with a very responsive seller (Amanda), I was offered a new power cable for free to eliminate that as a possible fault, with promises of more replacements if necessary. Fortunately I resolved the issue before anything was sent, but it was nice to have the willing help and the fault was relatively easy to diagnose thanks to the decent design of the system
