The biggest selling feature of this was the ability to adjust the sound on the fly. I play Bluegrass and many times I’ve been plugged into my amp while the band remains acoustic, plugged into the house or mic’d separately and I need to adjust my volume to match. I might be 10 feet from my amp. This is an amazing feature. Also after fiddling with the weights and positioning I’ve found a constant sweet spot that sounds great. Also adjusting the amp. It’s nice and punchy. I’ve used other popular brands and it stacks up. It’s pricey but it’s quality and who knows the R&D and overhead these folks need to recoup. The best part is, I play acoustically most of the time and I don’t have to keep some ugly wiring on my bass full time. Also, and this doesn’t apply to me, but if you have more than one bass you only need one pickup. If you travel and have to borrow a bass without a pickup you got one. No fussing with your bridge or permanent installation too.

I sent this item to my daughter as a replacement. She didn’t bring hers to university because it had disappeared from our house! The pickup gives clear sound and is easily portable when hiring a double bass during travel. She has used it for years and found it to be indispensable. The reseller was very helpful when I called to check delivery. The courier had not scanned the item at every step of the way so it was difficult to track delivery.

Just get an instrument mic, even with eq'ing this thing sounds like some sort of weird computer interpretation of what an upright should sound like. A decent condenser and preamp plus a good FOH guy and your problems are gone.

Simple, good sound, dependable, rugged, passive, with a volume control. Buying my third because I have lent the others out!
