Perfect knife for me.
I've been using the Wenoka squeezLock SS knife the last couple of years. Small, sharp and no rust. Seemed like it would do the trick until I stuck it in a fish to quiet it down and the blade bent like hot butter. The squeeze lock sure wasn't a sure lock, having lost two. The blade was also too short to safely dispatch lion fish from pole spear. In all, it was good for cutting and not much more.I wanted a bigger and sturdier knife that was razor sharp but could still be used as a tool for prying, dispatching fish and whatever other contingencies came along and didn't cost a fortune to replace if lost. The Cressi Borg fit all these requirements admirably. It's medium sized, (trust me, I've been diving for forty years and this is not what I would call big), thin profiled to easily impale fish but thick enough to use without fear of bending or breaking during other chores. It came razor sharp.Be aware that this knife is offered in the harder 420 stainless which will hold an edge better but will rust more easily. It also comes in the 304 stainless which is more rust resistant. Since the biggest complaint about this knife is rust, I suggest you get the 304 offered by Amazon. For some reason the steel hilt is of a different grade stainless and will have a tendency to show a little discoloring. The knife easily disassembles for maintenance. Before initial use, coat all metal surfaces with a light layer of silicone grease and you will not have a rust problem. After dive, take it apart, rinse with fresh water, let dry, and put back together. Knife will last rust free until you lose it. At $35.00 , no financial pain if lost. Lose a titanium and it hurts.I'm not that crazy about the sheath. Seems it could have been made narrower and more ergonomically designed for comfort and fit but what do you expect for 35 bucks. Locking mechanism seems a little iffy but so far giant strides or roll backs haven't been enough to dislodge knife. One hand release works quite well. It may not be in fashion anymore but I feel a lot more prepared to face any contingency underwater with a real diving tool strapped to the inside of my leg.

Served its purpose
I was scuba diving off the coast of Madagascar when I saw a large shadow appear and disappear several times, lurking just outside of my range of vision. I tried to follow the best I could, and before it could make a complete circle around me about 30 to 35 meters out, it turned and came at me head on. At about 15 meters I could see it plain as day and knew exactly what it was. I’d heard the stories and assumed fables making its way from the warnings of locals to the rumors of tourists. The Lehibe Fotsey Tantanana Lohany Antsantsa. A mutant hybrid of a great white and hammerhead shark. It looked like some sick science experiment gone wrong. Slightly bigger than a hammerhead, colors of a great white, with two protrusions bulging out the sides of its head. I knew this super predator had one thing on its mind. Lunch. Unfortunate for this grotesque monstrosity of a fish, I had my Borg [pointed tip] grey scuba knife!I unsheathed my blade and took a ready position. I had spent many many hours studying the cinematic masterpiece “deep blue sea” and was more than confident in my shark grappling knowledge. Well, time to put that knowledge to the test. As I took my regulator off and said to the beast “looks like I’m having sushi tonight”, it lunged. I pushed down on its misshapen head and got on its back and put her in a rear naked choke hold. I had one shot, I knew my aim had to be true, and with little to zero basic knowledge or understanding of a sharks anatomy, I plunged the dagger deep into its jugular. The fish went belly up and the locals donned me the King of the Reef. For the next nine days and nights I was showered with gifts and women.Works great as a prying tool, as well.

So close to perfect
I got this as a low cost first diving knife. It's been on 3 free-dives with me now, each one about 2 hours long. I'm impressed with the overall quality. Two small complaints kept this from being a 5 star review. The blade and pommel seem to be a high quality stainless. There are no signs of rust or corrosion on these parts and the blade takes a decent edge. The handle is very comfortable to handle and we'll designedThe hilt however seems to be a cheap chrome plated piece of steel and had rust spots on it the first time I got out of the water. I'm getting tired of polishing and oiling this piece everytime I get home. I think I'll just let this piece become the death of the knife and upgrade at that time. The sheath is decent and easy to get the knife out in the water. My only complaint here is that the release latch has loaded up with sand on every dive. This can prevent it from snapping back into the locked position after returning the knife. It's difficult to manually lock in the blade with gloves on and I'm afraid I might accidentally donate this blade to Poseidon sooner than later. All in all it does the job without breaking the bank. I think it's reasonably priced and if it weren't for the latching issue and cheap metal glued to quality metal this knife would be a steal.

Great tool, stays put.
Great buy. I bought this knife without ever owning anything similar before, and was somewhat hesitant to spend the money for it.I use this knife specifically for snorkeling trips, since we usually do it in groups involving several dive flags and ropes going everywhere. The knife compartment stays put and has never come undone or un-clipped. I'm usually able to strap both top and bottom straps below my knee. The knife has a great gripping handle and feels and looks very nice. It came in fairly sharp but not to the level I like, in a few minutes I had mine razor sharp and ready to go. I take the knife with me on all my snorkeling trips, as it serves as a tool in case of an emergency. It also gives me a false sense of security in case I was attacked by a sea creature. :)
