If you have a single, large project to complete with lots of cutting...or do a lot of cutting--BUY THIS NOW!!!!
This product is AMAZING, if you've never used an electric rotary cutter before!!!It's not intended for heavy use--so if you're looking for something industrial strength, try another, more expensive product. If, however, you just need a less fatiguing way to cut lots of fabric--this is a lifesaver. Or rather, a handsaver. ;)I had...a couple hundred yards of fabric I needed to cut, to make double lined, 15 foot long drapes...and sheers....and that is a LOT of cutting!!! With this, however, we were able to mark off a 15' long area on the floor, with tape...line up some fabric, weight it down, and then just walk back and forth, over the initial 15' mark, unrolling bolts of fabric, so that there were multiple layers, all roughly 15' long, all piled on top of each other...Then all we had to do was clip or weigh down the ends together...draw a straight line across each end, at exactly 15'...and run the cutter across the end--leaving all pieces EXACTLY the same size, with a clean, beautiful cut. It was MARVELOUS!!! (And considering the alternative was cutting 70 lengths of fabric with a pair of scissors...well, I'll just say again, it was AMAZING. :))The product is easy to use, however there is one thing to be aware of. With a large stack of fabric, it was a little difficult to cut with the guide down. We wound up leaving it up while cutting--and just making sure our hands and fingers were WELL out of the way. (NB: This is probably not the recommended way of doing this--and it's DEFINITELY hazardous, if you're not VERY alert about where your hands, clothes, etc are: this is SHARP and fast, and you can do some serious damage, almost before realizing it. You know...as with any sharp power tool.)One thing I was confused about before buying one of these, is how they protect the surface you're on. The metal plate that you see in the photo actually slides UNDER the fabric you're cutting--and the blade is always above the metal plate--so the only thing that ever touches your work surface is the bottom of the smooth metal plate...I did purchase another, more expensive rotary cutter at the same time I bought this one...because the fancier one had top notch customer service, and altogether felt less risky than this one--but the price on this was too good for me to not at least try it...and I wound up never even opening the more expensive one: I just sent it back, because this one did everything I needed it to.This thing ROCKS. :)

Works well & doesn’t distort fabric
The media could not be loaded. I just received the Hercules 4” Cordless Rotary Fabric Cutter yesterday, and have already used it on a quick project today. I used it to cut 1/4” F3 industrial wool felt, and it cut like a hot knife through butter, even while cutting rounded corners, without compressing the felt. My main concerns before buying this rotary cutter were noise level, whether or not it would distort the fabric while cutting, and if it would work well cutting curves.Noise: It’s quieter than I expected (it sounds louder in the video than it actually is).Curves: It maneuvers easily on the table. On gentle curves it works well. It’s a little awkward cutting tighter curves, as the fabric sample I was cutting was getting caught on something, though it was also too narrow a piece to have a good grip on. Overall, I would say this rotary cutter does as well as a manual cutter on gentle curves, maybe better because it doesn’t distort the fabric as much and is not as difficult to turn because the blade is not touching the table. On sharp curves it works better than a manual rotary cutter, for the same reason.Fabric distortion: I tested this rotary cutter against my manual rotary cutter on 16 layers of medium weight muslin. If you regularly cut fabric, you know a manual rotary cutter isn’t going to work very well on 16 layers. Not surprisingly the manual rotary cutter distorted the fabric from the pressure I had to use to get it to cut, resulting in a crooked cut. The Hercules went right through all 16 layers, no problem, with a nice straight cut that stayed on grain. It’ll be interesting to see how much I like cutting fabric from patterns with the Hercules, as I usually use pattern weights instead of pins.
