TCM Greatest Classic Films Collection: Family (Lassie Come Home / Flipper 1963 / The Incredible Mr. Limpet / National Velvet)

This is the 1963 original movie on which the 'Flipper' TV show was based. The TV show was pleasant enough, light-hearted drivel. The movie has all of that charm, including the magical underwater photography and background music -- but much more depth than the TV show. This is a movie about the sea -- hurricanes, marinelife catastrophe, fishing droughts -- and a very worthwhile, unsmaltzy story about growing up. It's a story Mark Twain might have writen if he'd grown up on the sea instead of on the river. Interestingly, here the boy has both a mother and father. For reasons I've never understood, family TV shows from this era usually portrayed a single widowed father raising a boy (Flipper, the Rifleman, Fury).

We give this DVD Film "Flipper" 110% & 5 Gold Stars, As it's a very Great Story For All The Family, & the Boy who Play the Part of Sandy is very good. ( i am letting some of my Friend's know, in hope you might get more Order's for a copy of this Film ! ! !

I saw this, "Classic Collection" and had to order it, for my grand-children!! These movies are from my own childhood! These are clean, fun, family movies that I seem to have a difficult time, over the past 10 years, for my grands-childre!!. I think the movie industry needs to stop, take stock in the type(s) of movies, that are available for our young, and very impressionable viewers.There can never be a shortage on movies that show safe and loving home environments. Or that teach honesty, respect for others,helping those less foutunate, than ourselves, is just a part of every day life! .No. I'm not a Bible thumping religious extremist! What I am is a grandmother, with terminal cancer, who is filled with sadness and dispair, at the type of world, that I'll be leaving, my grandchildren will be left with. I think of the world's vast changes, during my short 52 years. I believe there is no longer a, very distinct, "moral code" or compus for our children to be proud, to follow. I beieve the "Golden Rule" has been thrown out, lost and forgotten. I think it will never return, again! I sure hope that I'm wrong.l

This is a good clean family movie. Fun to watch and there is nothing in this that one would be ashamed to show their children.

Love the original 1963 Flipper!!! Don't bother watching the newest version made this century. We were recently given a copy of the new Flipper and thought we would compare the two. Wow! What a difference 50 years has made. The boy in the '63 version is a bright eyed, polite boy living with his intact nuclear family who live in a modest house, love each other, and sit down to dinner together... they even pray before their meals. The new version has a snarky, cynical boy whose parents are divorcing and whose mother has paid his beer drinking, beef-a-roni eating, retired sailor, bachelor uncle to babysit him for the summer. The boy is bored and lazy, too cool for school, and scheming to get away from his Uncle so he can go to the next Red Hot Chili Peppers concert. We turned off the new movie after about 20 min in... couldn't take it anymore.

All videos were clean, no scratches or blemishes. All played great, loved them.

This movie holds sentimental connection to me as it is one that I attached to when very young. The movie plays clean and clear, the jacket was excellent and clean (like no one was rummaging through piles of disks to find it) and the delivery, as I waited on tenterhooks, was fast. Thank you.
