First of all, great packaging. And by great I mean GREAT. Finally no more waste of cardboard/plastic for useless boxes.Second and more important, I bought this hdd for my Popcorn Hour, formatted it on my mac, works wonderful mounted in the Popcorn, it just makes a little spinning noise when powered up, then you hear nothing more. It also doesn't produce that much heat, so I would recommend it if you do not have a big computer tower or lots of fans into it.So far, so good I'd say! 5 stars all the way.

I buy lots of hdd's, if I remember rightly, this arrived promptly, in good condition, installed fine and so far has been working fine.

Packaging was a big cardboard box stuffed with paper to stop it rattling around. The drive itself was in the usual plastic shell. Since this is a "budget" hard drive, I couldn't really expect more. I know some other folks have had issue with the packaging, but from what I know about hard drives, when not operating, they can tolerate pretty high G-forces. I wouldn't worry to much about it being banged about in the post. Extreme temperatures and moisture on the other hand...The drive itself runs quietly, and noticeably cooler than the other, older drive in my little server.Is it fast? Does it perform like a stallion? No, probably not, and I don't care. It's just there for the capacity in my home server. It's adequate, and I have no doubt this drive is *not* the bottleneck in the system.I'd recommend this drive for where you need lots of space - like a backup or media server - but not as the main hard drive in your primary computer.

I don't normally add reviews to purachases but think it's worth my time since I have an experience similar to another reviewer (robbo100) and would like to give fair warning.Very happy with the delivery TIME since this arrived earlier than expected by several days though amazon could be quite conservative with their estimates. That's understandable though so 5* there !However regarding the packaging this was frankly disgraceful ! I ordered 4 hard drives (with Amazon EU S.a.r.L.) which are intended for a NAS box to run as a set and they arrived stacked 2x2 in their clear pastic packs wrapped in a single sheet of cardboard. There was single wide selotape strip holding the lot together so one drive could easily have slipped out in transit and there was no padding at all.Now my delivery came to work so unlike robbo I only have to worry about how rough the handling was but I will now have to scan every drive for errors (bed sectors) before they are used which at a rate of 1 drive per night will take days. I can understand that less packaging is better for the environment but these are DELICATE and sensitive to shock. I've taken photos as I unpacked if I need them but fingers crossed I won't. Rant over, 1* for the packaging.... such shame amazon.The drives I haven't got running yet so this is a review of the service more tha anything else. I do intend to update this at a later date with how well the drives tested and ran in my NAS array. I'll also update if I end up returning any as faulty though if there is no update please assume they tested ok.If you're thinking of ordering this via amazon be cautious about the packaging and deliver to work to avoid the postman just dropping your drive through your front door.

This hard drive arrived quickly and I had it inside my PC (using the enclosed screws) in about 30mins. Took about same amount of time to make my PC recognise it. Once it was recognised I did a quick format and that was it. I am using it for back up of all my files from 3 PCs and it copes easily. No noise from the fan when the PC case is all put together.Would have no hesitation in buying this again.

Nice drive and for the price is fair the shipping cost was a high with 6 £, but it was delivert right in time and via UPS.

This has proved to be a great upgrade for my Humax freesat PVR(s). It's quiet, it works and it's got more than 6 times the capacity of the drive I've taken out. It's so good I bought two, one for each Humax freesat box and around 6 months on from upgrading both drives they're both working well. Excellent product and price in my opinion.

The disk was poorly packages and did not work when it arrived it made horrible sounds when connected.Normally I get annoyed when users rate a product badly because of delivery problems as it does not tell you about the product. However in this case I feel it is relvant because:1. This is not a one off case. Reading the feedback on hard drives it happens a lot so is likely to happen to other customers.2 Even if the product works ewhen it arrives it might be more pone to failure in the future or might have problems which are not immediately detectable. Therefore, in this case I feel it should form part of the basis of whether people order it from Amazon.The more I thought about this after my experience I thought - do I really want to take the risk of storing my data on a drive that has had a seriously good pummeling in the post? And the answer is no - especially when other online shops have the product for the same price with decent packaging. I wont be ordering my next disk from Amazon - and its a shame because I really like Amazon.

Just ordered 3 (max it would let me) from Amazon, and picked a 4th one from a local MicroCenter. They are installed using rubber gromets, and when all 4 are running at full speed, I can't bearly hear them. When the case is closed (I have a sound dampening case) - I don't hear anything.I bought it for these reasons:1. I wanted a green drive that would work well with RAID, the others I looked at WD Caviar Green and Seagates - had issues with RAID.2. I was torn between the 2TB model F3EG, but went with the 1.5TB - simply for lower cost per TB while still having redundancy. I don't plan on upgrading for a long time. If I do - I guess I'll rebuild to newer interface (SATA 3).3. Quiet drive, since I have already spent some money to get my case to an inaudible level. So far, it is quieter than I could have expected.4. Wasn't really worried about speed - something good enough. In RAID5, I get reads of 300+MB/s, and write of 30-40MB/s (write-cached disabled) and 200+MB/s (write-cache enabled). I have write-cahced enabled write now - since I'm moving a lot of data over, I might consider disabling it, since I don't see a constant write of 30+MB/s in regular operation.5. I wasn't planning on using it as an OS disk - only for storage.It would have been nice if they had inclded a SATA cable. I realize it's an OEM - my fault that I didn't pay attention.All in all, great purchase so far. I hope the drives lives to at least 3 years - that's when I might consider upgrading.

Je m'en sers comme disque dur de stockage. il remplit parfaitement son œuvre depuis quelques mois. Écologie et économie réuni dans ce matériel.

Nachdem meine zuerst bestellte 2TB Western Digital Cavier Green leider defekt geliefert wurde hab ich die zurückgeschickt und daraufhin diese F2 1,5 TB Samsung gekauft und wie gewohnte Samsung Qualität läuft auch diese Festplatte völlig fehlerfrei und ohne Probleme.Hab nun bereits 4 Samsung HDDs, darunter 3x 1TB F1 SpinPoint Platten und nun eine F2 1,5 TB (dieser Artikel hier) und bisher bin ich von der Qualität und Leistung ALLER Samsung Platte begeistert, dazu sehr preiswert (GB Preis von ca 0,09 ct kann man nicht meckern) und allgemein sehr gut.Ich nutze die Platte allerdings ausschließlich als Datenspeicher, als Systemplatte würde ich andere HDDs empfehlen aber für Server/Backups/Daten ist die Platte einfach optimal da sehr leise und sehr kühl, die Platte hat bei mir eine Temperatur von etwa ~21-24 °C je nach Belastung, wobei meine Festplatten mit einem Gehäuselüfter (Frontlufteinzug) gekühlt werden bzw. sich direkt dahinter befinden.Bin sehr zufrieden und die Festplatte tut wie jede andere Samsung SpinPoint bisher ihren Dienst einwandfrei!Lediglich die Verpackung bei den HDDS auch bei Western Digital hab ich noch nicht ganz nachvollziehen können, die HDD war in diesem Falle in dieser normalen HDD-Plastik "Packung" gelegen und dann in einen NICHT GEPOLSTERTEN Amazon Kartonumschlag, also nicht als Paket mit Schaumstoff oder was zur Polsterung sondern diesen seltsamen aufklappbaren Pappkartonumschlag den Amazon gerne bei kleineren Artikeln versendet. Weiß nicht inwieweit solche Festplatten beim Transport geschützt gehören, aber HDDs sollten doch eigentlich sehr senibel sein? Naja auf alle Fälle kam die Platte unbeschädigt und fehlerfrei an und bin sehr glücklich damit.
