About Mammals: A Guide for Children

Beautiful illustrations, but disappointing text. Over half the pages have 1-3 words. How can children learn with so little information? This is dumbing down, author too lazy to think about a choice complete sentence to give rich details! The afterword, in the back of the book, has a paragraph for each plate, but who is going to go back and forth to read that to a child?

All of her books are must-haves. They are written so they can be entertaining for both young kids, older kids, and adults. There is something to learn in them for everybody.

This book is all about the picures. My 2 1/2 year-old granddaughter loves pictures of racoons so this book, as you can see by the cover, is one of her favorites. Other drawings of animals are as well done as the one on the cover. An overall, "Very well done." This is the second one of the series that we have--also have About Birds. My granddaughter likes that one, too, but the one about mammels is her favorite.

This book got me all started and I am now a big Cathryn and John Sill fan. I borrowed this one from the library but I saw how my preshoolers got so interested and captivated by the pictures that I looked it up at Amazons. I am trying to complete the series. It is worth every dollar.

This is the third book from this series that we purchased for our toddler son, and we all love them. The illustrations are superb, and the text is simple enough for toddlers without being dull. This series is a wonderful way to teach children about nature and the world around them. Very excited to have found an author and illustrator who take such loving care with words, pictures, and ideas.

The entire collection is great! Very informative and written at a level my two and four year olds can enjoy and understand.
