Skeptical because of some reviews, but satisfied.
I was really skeptical in purchasing this Mono Class D Amp because of some reviews saying that when you turn up the gain, the amp will automatically shut off; but given the price point and 300 watt RMS @ 4Ohms and 500 watt RMS at 2Ohms, I figure it was worth a shot to try out and if all else fails, you could always return it defective on Amazon.I hooked up this amp using 8Guage Wire and it works fine after some adjustments. I am pushing a 10" low profile woofer rated at 200 watts RMS and 800 watts max, and it does the job just fine; almost sounds like I have a 12" woofer. I turned on the LPF (low pass filter) on my head unit, and set the cross over at 100Hz; set the bass boost to 18db and it sounds near perfect. Being on a budget and for the price, I am satisfied. My setup:-Pioneer AVIC-5000NEX Head Unit- Kenwood KAC-5001PS Amplifier- Pioneer TS-SWX251 Low-Profile Sub-wooferIf this did not work out, my alternative amplifier would of been an Alpine Monoblock MRV-M500. It has generally the same specifications and has excellent reviews, but costs a little more. So really depends on how much you're willing to spend and whether you want to take a chance on this because I don't know if there was a bad bunch of these amps because of some of the reviews, seems hit or miss.I say as long as you match the RMS output with your subwoofer RMS or go above that, I think you should be fine. You never want to use an amp that has a significantly lower RMS output for sub-woofers that have much higher RMS inputs; this will overheat the amp and make it work harder and shut it down into protection mode. Hope this general rule of thumb helps. Always look at RMS values instead of peak/max values as these are what really matter.

One of the best amps I've owned.
I paired this baby up with a Kenwood KFC-W12PS 12" 1000W Car Subwoofer. They go awesome together. My car bumps like like a champ! The amp stays cool to the touch. When I first received the amp, I thought to myself there's no way this thing could operate to specs because of its small compact size. I installed it, tested it, and used OHMs law to tune it to the sub. To my surprise it works as specified. The signal output of this amp is extremely clear. This baby packs a punch for its size. 1000watt max output, 300 watt rms @ 4ohm. This baby is amazing. I've read a lot of reviews on this amp. There are a lot of people having trouble with this amp and giving it bad reviews. If you do your homework and know what you are doing, this amp will works wonders. People, make sure you match the input sensitivity on this amp to the output voltage on the head unit's preamp. If you don't know the output voltage on your head unit's preamp, please look it up. Your head unit's manual will have that info. It will save you a lot of trouble. In my case my Sony head unit has a 2 volt preamp. I set the input sensitivity on the Kenwood amp to 2v matching the preamp on the head unit.

Great sounding Amp, small amp- Big Power!!
I've had this amp for over a year and i have to tell you this thing pounds clean sounding power. Please Beware of these amp kits that have undersized wire like Boss and Pyle the only reason you would have problems with a new amp would be the wiring and installation, that being said this thing powers my 2-JL 10w3v3-4 10"s wired to 2 ohms like no bodies business!!!. I have abused this bad boy for a year now adjusted and set gains, low and high pass properly and i love the quality for the price point, if you are thinking about buying this amp or any Kenwood for that matter DO IT!!! Kenwood is reliable and will achieve what the ratings says it will achieve (don't look at max or peak look at rms ratings at 4 and 2 ohms), its also smaller than i thought big sound small package!!! Just do your research on installation and correct grounding procedures and wire sizes and you should have no issues like me.=)(edit) still abusing this amp 4-5 years later, never gets hot and still sounds great!

Ive had nothing but issues with this amp. Bought it to run my Kicker 10s and it worked for a minute and quit at low volume. The red indicator light shows its getting power but no sound to the the subs. Disconnected the battery to reset the amp, checked fuses and bench tested the amp and it all checks out to be working. Re-hooked the battery cables and cranked the car and the amp powered up like normal. Subs started working again but for just a minute and quit. Checked the ground to the chasis and its good and tight. It baffles me that everything seems to be operating like it should but if the subs arent playing, its not doing its job. I think i could have got the same satisfaction out of taking the $$ i bought this amp with and just threw my wallet out of the window at 60mph driving down the road. I love kenwood audio but this particular amp has left a bad taste in my mouth. Very upset with this product.

your little sister's amp
That's what I have been calling it it just so cute very small footprint so could mount it anywhere and it doesn't get hot to the touch so no worries about overheating . Wired to two ohms jammed pretty good for an hour won't reheat your latte even a little, hands down this is a great entry level amp I'm sure that it pushes kicker cvr and type r very well but i got it to run a 're audio sex 12 and it tried its best but it just doesn't have the juice , even still going hard at full gain once you hit the ceiling it will shut down but not go into protection mode and did I mention it still wasn't hot . So in summary this amp will do a lot of things very well but it won't push a sexy 12 alone (wink )
