Well Worth it,..!
The media could not be loaded. For years now I have been looking for a media player that can somehow rival my aging Western Digital Media Player WD TV, I have always been a fan of this media player, as much as I love this little player, it has its limitations, it takes a bit of knowledge to have it read hard drives larger than 2TB, and it simply cannot decode Dolby Atmos and UHD files (x265 encoded). I recently upgraded our TV in the living room with a QLED, and I would love to maximize its capability.I also own a couple of Apple TV 4K, don’t get me wrong, they function well, but they too have its limitations. In my WD TV, connected is a USB port, with 6 hard drives plugged in to it, and those are being read by the WD TV, served me well for over a decade or more.I tried my luck with some of the inexpensive media players here, most of which are Android based, some work, but with plenty of annoyances. Some wouldn’t even boot up or even initialize. That is why I became wary of Android based players. But I saw a review by a certain N. Cheung who also runs the same media player that I have. That caught my attention, knowing that someone is also looking for a replacement of the same player that I have, I do know plenty of enthusiasts are still on the market for one that will be able to match the capability and simplicity of the WD.I tested players from the price range of $40-200,With brands that I’d rather not disclose, but allmof which was just a wave of frustration and disappointments, some would play video files flawlessly, but without audio, some would play the file, but will only give you 2 channels in audio, and no matter what you adjust in the settings, it wouldn’t change anything, and like what I said before, some would not even boot up and initialize. Then this Zappiti came to my attention, was a bit pricey honestly, but I figured, there must be a reason. Player came well packaged and secure, came with all the bells and whistles, socket adaptors for different outlets (if you live in a different country/continent).Setup was a bit scary, as it initialize, it will ask you immediately to update the firmware, in which I did, but the scary part was after the update, and when you open the movie player or the explorer (common android interface), it will ask you to update it, but once you click update, an error will show saying it cannot update, and will just cycle back to where you started.Like what I said, it takes some tech knowledge to find your way with this player, did some research and found out that one solution to that problem is going inside the players setting inside the my apps tab, from there, there is a menu that will show you which app needs updating, voila,..! That worked,..!After that, it was really fluid in everything. The Android OS was quite responsive and very stable, I haven’t experienced and crashing or freezing. As for its playback, video is amazing,..! Colors are vibrant, images are accurate and detailed, match with my TV, video quality is simply amazing, as for the audio, it played basically every encode that I threw at her, from the simple 2 channel mix to the complex uncompressed audio, from Dolby Digital to Dolby Atmos, DTS to DTS-MA, etc etc...Don’t get me wrong this is a very good player, the only drawback that I experienced with it is basically because of my weird setup, again, like what I said, my WD TV has a USB plugged into her, and with it is 6 hard drives, the simplicity of the WD TV OS is that it will load the hard drives separately, meaning you can access each hard drive individually. For me, its very simple, easy to add movies, add subtitles, and you can manually add album art. With the Zappiti, it automatically collects all the files inside ALL your hard drives and put it in a compilation of some sort, the player basically went crazy loading all my movie library, some files would not be loaded via the Video/Movie player, but can be accessed thru the Media Explorer. But again, that is caused by my complex number of hard drives. to simplify it, I ended up using a single external hard drive. And that made everything easier, adding movies is a bit tedious on this one, or maybe there is a simpler way that I haven’t tried yet, with the Zappiti, I always end up deleting My Collections, then adding it again after I added some new movie files. Unlike the WD TV wherein you just copy it in the hard drive and you’re good to go. Well, small things that I can live with. What matters to me is that it plays all the movie files that I needed to play, and decode all the audio tracks that I want it to decode.Would I recommend it, Yes, but with a stern warning that you have to have some knowledge in tinkering with settings and apps to make it work initially. If you have any questions, drop me an email at [email protected] and if N. Cheung is reading this review, would love to exchange ideas with you about the player.- - - - - - - - - - - -Update:May 23, 2020I love this player,..!I was making my life difficult with the way I create my complilation of movies, it is quite simple, just add the movie file to that attached hard drive, just be sure that file is inside the Movies folder. And the Zappiti will automatically identify it, and sort it out for you..!The interface is amazing, the soundtrack that plays everytime a movie or folder is highlighted is quite impressive, and the quality of its playback is just stunning..! Both video and audio is simply amazing..!

Great with room for improvement.
One of the best Media player solution with great media management. They do need to improve thumbnail generation for home video files and improve the Zappitti Music player (ie not look like a file explorer but a music library view). Handling personal videos is as important as movie posters and metadata mgmt. hope they prioritize that. Great build quality although still using older chipset.

Great media player so far!
I’ve owned WD MEDIA players since they were released years ago. Great players that played all my media files. But alas WD stopped producing them and so support did for them as well. I wanted to ride them as long as could but without proper support for new video and audio codecs it was only a matter of time.So now it’s Zappiti time. And I was skeptical at first but the machine is really really good. It has its quirks which I hope will be ironed out in future upgrades but for now it’s does the job damn well.It plays all the files that my WD couldn’t and the audio and video quality is vastly superior! No complaints on that end for sure! UI is a learning curve no doubt. But it's not complicated and there is troubleshooting available on their site and other video forms. Otherwise just google your problem and you should have a answer! Pretty simple. My one gripe is the or sensor is finicky so you have to point the remote accurately....I’m gonna try a universal remote and see if that helps....oh I do use the IR extender, which should be longer too.But overall I’m happy. The UI looks great! The cataloguing is really efficient and easy! And every time you add a new movie it automatically updates your catalogue of movies or TV shows! Pretty awesome! So very happy! If want a media player that can play anything, with great sound and great video get this! It takes a little work but it’s worth the effort! Will update as I own the device longer!EDIT: Oh well after 3 years the company went Kaput! Bankrupt. So no support for my Zappiti! And all that wonderful poster art and animation and media info is gone! I can still use the player and play my shows and movies but all the wonderful goodies are gone since it all that metadata was stored on their servers...sigh. Now it's onto finding another solution.
