Director Michael Bay tells the harrowing true story of the September 11, 2012 assault on a U.S. diplomatic installation in Benghazi, Libya, and the men who put their lives on the line to defend it. When the American embassy known as the Special Mission comes under attack by Islamic militants, six private military contractors assigned to protect a nearby CIA compound took it upon themselves to fight back, despite being hopelessly outnumbered and outgunned. I can say the opening scene set the mood for the rest of the movie Tense suspense driven film action yes ,Lots of gun fire yes . It is a war movie, from the point of view of CIA contractors. The film depicts the events up to and during the terrorists' attack on the US facility (the Obama administration refused to call it an embassy) and the death of the American Ambassador. Three other Americans died during the fighting that night. The film is well done and the special effects are more realistic than most Hollywood drivel. Hollywood usually depicts all rifles firing full automatic at all times, but this movie showed the CIA guys firing single shot (semi-auto) and even the SAW (a machine gun) was fired in short bursts. There was no depiction of lead bullets creating sparks, either, as Hollywood loves to portray. Michael Bay did a great job with this story. Very little was mentioned about the reluctance of the Obama administration to send assistance to Benghazi (a reelection was looming) and the CIA station chief in Benghazi who felt security was "someone else's job". One of the lessons learned (again) is that the terrorists are dressed as civilians, making tactical decisions by Americans very difficult. We had the same issue in Viet Nam, but then, politicians never learn about war.

Amazing & Gripping Film Based on True Events
This review is for the movie 13 Hours (13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi). This was one of my most gripping films that I have watched in a while. Part of it is just the movie itself, and part of it is this based on a real event. I don't want to give away an spoilers. This movie is based on the attack that happened in Benghazi in 2012. It is a very thought provoking, suspenseful, and emotion evoking film. The cast, scenes, and directing were all excellent. This was a film that I wish I had seen years ago.

This was an excellent movie bringing to light what was another news story ...
This was an excellent movie bringing to light what was another news story to us. Often times we read a news story which concerns us, but not knowing too many details of what happened, we soon forget. This movie made the news stories real. Because this event had two parts, the news stories continued. The first part was the event itself. The second part, which got more press, was the political fall out afterwards. I agree that this is not a political movie as it should not have been. However, if you haven't already done so, go into the internet and follow what happened on the political side starting immediately after the event. For whatever reason I did this after watching the first half of the movie. If you read what happened during the first few weeks in the aftermath, you will catch some brief instances in the movie that are tied to the political events that followed. Of importance is the early hours of discussions in the White House. What was assumed but turned out to be false may have led to some poor decisions which resulted in help not being sent. And I was reminded how we were at first mislead as to what was the reason for the attacks. You may have to watch the movie again to catch the little references I am speaking of.

Excellent Re-Telling of the Foolish Disaster in Benghazi
High praise for accuracy and feel. Bit low marks for not slowing down the dialog and action just a fraction of a second so that the audience can HEAR and understand the operational pace. It's going by so fast, that's it's all just boring action. There's no time to develop the tension. Very good on the chummy/brotherly silliness. I like the swipes at CIA and State. Just shocking someone could be so DUMB not only after 9/11, but ON 9/11. I do fault the security at the diplomatic mission compound under Chris Stevens. They were clearly not prepared.

Good movie. Now I know WHY so many people were pissed off about Benghazi.
Good movie, well laid out and filmed well. Of course even the bad Bay films are filmed great. The plots sometimes not so much. I had heard about the Predator drone overheard watching and the defense offered online that it was a lie about that. If it's a lie they had a hell of a lot of detailed lies about the action in the movie. The fact that Aviano Italy base was 700 miles away and F-16's were sitting on the tarmac waiting and other planes were loaded with a quick reaction force and no authorization was ever received to go is why so many people were pissed off. President Zero at his best; Do nothing, then lie about it afterwards. Secretary Clinton was probably too busy watching Bill to make sure he wasn't getting caught banging a 19 or 20 year old to bother to get them more security. I've seen storage areas with better security for their situation than that Ambassador. Sad all around. In conclusion the movie is well made and acted but the underlying story sucks. That's NOT the filmmaker's fault. Watch it, it's okay. I saw it on"Prime" for free so if I spent $17.99 for a DVD or something I might not be so happy.

Riveting and hard to believe what they went through with ANY survivors!
This is a movie that puts into perspective through actual documentation what these people went through in an attempt to protect not only American lives but the basic fight for survival in an environment that was so very tumultuous. The film is a notch above a documentary in a way that all of the viewers could understand what went on and how these men fought and risked everything, plus a brief indication of the brotherhood they had for one another. As you [should] know, this film was not made to entertain as much as to inform the American people of what actually went on during those 13 hours in Benghazi that was a lifetime to these men, but I know there was so much more to this story than could be relayed in the film. I had a great respect for these people before, putting their personal lives "on hold", missing their families, friends, home to serve and protect, and realize that they are a special breed of Americans to willingly live this lifestyle (and their families gave up so much as well). I highly recommend everyone to see this film. It was very tastefully produced and directed, and the acting was superb.

great movie , great acting, great men
i read some reviews where the reviewer complained that the movie did not discuss the politics that allowed the embassy to be under staffed , below the minimum security requirements for an embassy , and why no help was ever sent. The book clearly points out that that is not the purpose of the book or movie . The purpose of the book and subsequent movie is to detail the actions of the men on the ground in Benghazi on September 11 . the author clearly states that the men involved chose not to take part in the political discussion . They have said so themselves in an interview available on YouTube where they describe the events of that night The book is about what happened that night and does not place blame even on those that deserve it. The main differences between the book and movie are that some events in the movie happened at different times or with different people. Some of the lines attributed to Jack in the movie were actually depicting events and actions taken by their members of the GRS security I.e Tig or Tanto You can watch and enjoy the movie regardless of which side of the aisle your politics lie. It is well acted and fast paced.
