Cute book
I bought this book for my son to help him cope with his grandmother's cancer (it had come up in a search I did looking for books on this topic). It is a nice story about a boy wanting to push away everything that hurts him, but then finding out that isn't the answer to being happy. Sometimes the things you love aren't perfect and you have to love and accept them anyway. It's a cute book and both my boys (6 & 3) like it. I don't mind reading it (which to me is a big deal for rating books!). I just didn't give it 5 stars because it isn't in my TOP favorites (reserved for GREAT books). For anyone looking for a good book to share with children about cancer... my boys and I LOVE Gentle Willow: A Story for Children About Dying by Joyce C. Mills.

Great book for kids with grief or difficult life situations!
A simple book but a good one. Great message that when we shut out the bad feelings and the world we also lose the good ones. It doesn't tell how to do manage it, but does a good job of opening the door to learning to cope with the bad and enjoy the good that life has. It has gone over really well with the elementary and middle-schoolers that I do grief groups and one on one work with. I think it resonates with the adult family members as well.

loved this book !
I was so touched by the premise of this book, I found it to be a wonderful resource for kids who may be struggling with sadness. It is the first time I have seen a book of it's kind, talking about how in order for there to be happiness there must also be sadness as a part of life. The message is so simple yet profound. I highly recommend this book !!

Before Inside Out
This book was around before inside out. Instead of little characters running the show, we see a boy in action trying to figure out how to avoid being sad. If you've seen the movie this is a nice follow up. Good for talking with your child.

Good book to engage kids!
Was looking for some books to use to engage children who have experienced domestic abuse and abandonment. This is a good book for elementary age kids who have feelings they don't know how to express. I've begun to use it with grade school clients and it's allowed for more interaction and discussion. Just what the doctor ordered!
