Buddha in Blue Jeans: An Extremely Short Simple Zen Guide to Sitting Quietly

An excellent way to combat stress, so prevalent today
This book is brief enough and valuable enough to reread daily. People, new to meditation would benefit. Those who seek self awareness and improvement would as well. Reading in the morning could set the tone for the day as decisions are made constantly based on thoughts, feelings, and perceptions. Reviewing the book at night and picking out a few decisions for self reflection might lead to forming better ones in days to come. I can imagine sitting n a garden on a bench with painting supplies, ear phones for music, or a musical instrument and contemplating the pleasure of being present in the here and now. Be at peace with the knowledge that informed behavior rather than visceral, dinosaur brain decision making is a preferred skill that can improve with practice and mindfulness. Maybe, due to stress, worries, and milieu, it's a far cry from the norm. But stress can lead to an early grave or illnesses. Another little book, to take along is: The Art of Peace by Morihei Uesiba. There's more good advice in a little package, referring to the hard copy.

Short, sweet, worth reflecting on
If you realize this is a VERY short, simple book, then you will like it if you enjoy simple, spiritual principles. It's just a description of a dozen or so principles of Eastern religion that translate very well for those of the West. No big whoop. Takes an hour to read, but each little one page chapter is worth some reflection. I enjoyed it. Very basic, but well written. Nice.

Very basic, very helpful
I just started the practice of sitting quietly. This is my first book about it. At first glance, it appears overly simplistic because it appears to lack substance. But when you slow down, start at the beginning by putting that first section into practice, you see how much this book has to offer. What worked for me is reading the book through - it really didn't take long at all - and then re-reading the first section to begin to learn how to sit quietly. Once I began to get that, I re-read a section that appealed to me - to my needs or interests - and sat quietly in that mindset. I was going through a period of anxiety. This really helped me. And I continue to sit quietly every day. Sometimes for a minute, sometimes more. I do know that I feel better. So I'm giving this book 5 stars because it is easy to apply and is quite effective.

A very quick introductory read into mindfulness
This book was extremely short and simple, which is both good and bad. I believe I got it for free so I can't complain but if you are expecting a longer book you will be disappointed. However, a lot of wisdom can be found in small packages, and the whole point of the book is to simply things and just sit with your thoughts, so, there's that.I would call these short little lessons or meditations. You can read them all the way through to get an overview of the concepts and then read them more deeply one at a time in the future. It's nice to sit and meditate on the words. This was similar to another book I recently read, and I liked the other book slightly better. Mindfulness for Beginners in Plain English: Practical Guide with Mindfulness solution, exercises & tips for anxiety, by Charnita Arora. They are both short and sweet enough to check out at the same time and see which one you like best.I've been practicing mindfulness and it's helped me with grief over pregnancy loss as well as eating better, exercising and other areas of life. I recommend this book for any purpose that mindfulness can help. (

Very much enjoyed this simple straight forward guide.
Buddha in Blue Jeans: An Extremely Short Simple Zen Guide to Sitting Quietly and Being Buddha provides exactly what the title suggests. The practices the writer Tai Sheridan introduces the reader to include Sit Quietly; Care For Your Body; Accept Your Feelings; Give Thoughts Room; Pain is Natural; Be Who You Are; Live Each Moment Well; Love Indiscriminately; Listen to Others; Be Surprised; Wonder; Live gratefully; Do No Harm; Benefit life; A Wish for The World. The writer stresses that all of these practices circle back to sitting quietly. I enjoyed this simple and straight forward guide. It is a good reminder to take time to "be authentic, be genuine, be real, be yourself."My favorite points made in this guide:"Everything you feel is okay. Feelings can be difficult. Accept your feelings.""Your thoughts are just your thoughts...Thoughts can be a jail.""Don't waste your life trying to become somebody else.""Now is all you've got. The past is memory. The future is wish. Now is real. Keep bringing youself back to now."

Find your own truth about being alive
Dr. Tai Sheridan is passing a kind of wisdom to us through Buddha in Blue Jeans. He wants you to use your heart and intuition to determine whether all, some or none of what’s written becomes part of you.

Subtitle says it all
Extremely short is exactly what it is, but I don't mean that in a bad way. Tai cuts right to the point, leaves out of the grill and fluff. This is a manual for how to get it done, basic and clear. Without worrying about background and convoluted details.

So spot on
I got this book years ago when I was just beginning my journey in this practice. I thought it was a nice thought. As time went by, I thought back and remembered thinking this wasn't a good description of the practice. I just stumbled across this book again after a horrible day. I read it front to back and realized this book perfectly describes the essence of being Buddha! You have lifted my spirits today. Thank you.

Arrived before expected, excellent packaging and book conditions.
Indeed it’s a extremely short book, it must be the shortest i’ve ever buy. It gets straight to the point, no background stories, very practical for those who wants to build the meditation habit. Read it one time, practice as much as you can, repeat the day after and so on.I recommend it.
