The Fairy Tales of Herman Hesse

Pleasantly surprised to discover Hesse's collection of short fairy tales as I hadn't heard of them before. The fonts text size is on the larger size so it's good for any reader. These tales retain a consistent voicing of the author -- adding to an enriching and expansive experience of his works. A great addition for any Hesse fan, indeed.

This the best book I have ever read. How could Hesse possibly have had such a deep and magical understanding of human nature. An absolutely amazing book.

This is Hesse at his best! Atmospheric, soulful, pointed, lyrical, life-changing! I read "Augustus" at least once a year, and shed a tear every time. I give this book to my friends.

Magnificent translation by Jake Zipes who is one of the greatest translators of German folklore and Marchen (fairy tales). Hesse’s volume is representative of the modern day fairy tale-have reread it many times! Don’t hesitate to purchase this book! The woodcuts that accompany many of the stories are beautiful!

Have not read any of Hermann Hesse's writings for some time. But, after reading Fairy Tales, I will make a point of reading more.

Amaaazing collection beautifully written

As my first taste of Hesse, this collection more than hit the spot. I've been doing a lot of research and reading about the archetypal nature of fairy tales and this was why I bought the book. You can also see his progression both as a writer and as a human being. There are a few odd translations that made me question what was being said but nothing serious.

Good quality book for second hand and anything by Herman Hesse is a winner with me. Some of his rare short stories.
