Well-built lure with solid potential—just needs a bit of fine
The first thing that impressed me about this lure is its excellent design and sturdy construction. It feels durable in hand and looks great in the water. The action is decent, leaning towards a zig-zag movement, but it doesn’t always hold the pattern consistently on its own. To get the best performance, I found it requires a bit more coordination between rod work and reel speed. Once dialed in, though, it can be quite effective. Overall, a good addition to any tackle box—especially for anglers who enjoy fine-tuning their technique to get the most out of their lures.

Outstanding topwater lure for Gulf surf fishing
I recently tried this red-head and white Chug’n Spook Junior on a Florida gulf beach and was astonished at how well it worked. I was using a Penn Fierce 2 4000 with 18lb braid I had put on an old 7’ freshwater MH spinning rod, not an optimum surf rig, but living in the Midwest, it’s what I had and it worked pretty well. I was fishing late morning, on a partly cloudy day with light wave conditions. First, I was quite pleased with how far I could cast the Heddon, essentially as long as anything I’ve ever cast, given I’ve never used longer than a 7 foot rod. I honestly wasn’t expecting much given I was at a swimming beach, but I was able to reach some darker, deeper water about 125 feet offshore. I was surprised when on my third cast, a fish jumped at it but missed. Two casts later, I had a strike that didn’t miss and about 90 seconds later, landed a 20” weakfish. A couple of casts after that one I had 22" pompano on that bent my rod nearly double and was the hardest fighting fish pound-per-pound I’ve ever caught stripping line from my reel and taking over five minutes to land. Ten minutes later I landed a 22” bluefish. I had spent over $70 on a variety of salt water lures for this trip to Florida, and the only one I tied on the whole trip was the Chug’n Spook Junior (although the surf was too heavy on subsequent days to fish some other beaches we visited).I found it it did not seem to be as effective directly on the surface, but had good action if I held my rod tip down and kept it under the water a foot or two – – that’s how I caught all three of the fish I landed. The silvery white body of the lure had a lot of flash which I think gave it a pretty universal appeal, judging by the three different species of fish I caught. I had so much success with this one lure in a brief time that I’m planning on buying a longer inshore rod to use on future Florida trips when I’ll be able to spend more time at designated fishing locations rather than purely at swimming beaches with the family. I’m also going to pick up some Heddon Spooks in freshwater colors to use this summer on bass and pike. Highly recommended.

Good quality
I got the 1oz one I like the action so far I haven’t caught anything I tested it it walks pretty good hope to catch a big bass ok for the price color is good for early morning idk the catchability yet bc it says salt water I’m not a saltwater fisherman but I don’t think it really matters a bass sees or hears it they gonna hit it size is good for my bait caster cast really far

Great lure just bad treble hooks.
The action of this lure is absolutely amazing. Both times I've used this lure it has been hit by 20lb bull reds (estimated). Would be 5 stars if the hooks didnt bend so easily and loose both reds. Just replace the stock hooks.

top top water plug
This version of the spook is the best surface plug on the market. They improved the freshwater version with stronger hooks. works great on snook, tarpon, redfish, snapper, yellow jack and dolphin, as well as the fresh water large mouths and strippers .I prefer the bone color because it resembles the finger mullet.

Best topwater lure EVER
I bought 2 of these little guys. Overall the chug n' spook is a phenomenal lure. You can fish it fast, slow, quiet, or throw a ton of water and make a lot of noise. It is the most fun lure to fish. It gets the most explosive reactions ever. I have had bass knock this thing water and then swallow it as soon as it comes back down. There are 2 things I didn't like about it though 1: the belly is not orange. Just the mouth is. Easily fixed with an orange sharpie. 2: the hooks are pretty much worthless. I lost a couple GOOD bass due to the hooks bending before I switched them out to some mustad hooks. But now that I have this is my favorite lure.
