Fun Book
This book was given to a 9 year old for a long haul flight. He loved it. The "clue wheel" was a great addition to interacting with the book. He had fun working out the clues with a younger brother. I would highly recommend this fun book. Kept everyone interested in the story clue by clue.

help Carmen decode the mystery
cool that this book come with a decoder so the reader can try to help Carmen solve the mystery. From fighting Tigress in the jungle to scubaing through a sunken city Carmenn tries to stay one step ahead of the V.I.L.E to the buried treasure. The story is fast pace and the plot grabs hold of your attention and don't wishes to let go.

Entertaining Carmen Sandiego Mystery With Code Wheel
I ordered this book as a gift for my cousin's young daughters (ages 8 and 10), and I'm pretty confident they're going to love it. It's an engaging story: Carmen and her friends are racing against Tigress and other VILE members to unscramble a secret code and find a hidden pirate treasure. I love the interactive element of the code wheel integrated into the front of the book. Young sleuths can turn the wheel until they find a symbol on the front cover and then discover the corresponding letter on the inside cover. (The messages are spelled out in the story, but readers can work on solving the code themselves before turning the page. There are also a few bonus hidden messages at the end of the book that readers must solve on their own.)While the book is recommended for ages 10-12, I think younger readers would enjoy it, too. (There are no killings or anything too scary for them.) However, there are few drawings and no pictures of the story characters apart from the front and back covers. There are several full-page map illustrations throughout the book and a half-page background image at the start of each chapter. I'm guessing it's the text-heavy nature that has geared this to slightly older kids.Overall, this is a highly entertaining book that's perfect for fans of Carmen Sandiego, mysteries, or code-cracking!

We love it!
My 9 year old loves reading but is very picky about the type of book that she wants to read on her own. She prefers graphic novels and action and or fantasy books. She's also a fan of Carmen Sandiego. She loved reading this book right away and, in fact, is reading it all over again. She read it out loud to me and it really is an exciting, interesting book.It has some tricky words and names for her to read through. Though, not too difficult and it is pretty easy to follow the story. There are some colorful illustrations dispersed throughout the book but it's mainly a chapter book. Great quality, too.The decoder is a great idea as it makes it exciting and interactive to the story. The characters come across a secret messages written with symbols and then use a decoder to crack-the-code...which they do on the next page so that the reader also has a chance to figure out the message using the decoder that's built into the cover of the book. On the front are symbols and on the backside of the decoder (on the inside of the book cover) is a letter to go with the symbol. My daughter loves that feature! At the back of the book are a few pages of geography and history facts tied to the story…plus a handful of additional codes to break and even a recipe for Jerk Chicken!Such a fun book, by far the best Carmen Sandiego book we've read yet!

3rd Grade Teacher--students love it!
I haven't read this all the way through myself, but I put this on the bookshelf in my classroom and it was immediately snatched up. Most of the kids haven't even heard of or seen Carmen Sandiego (even the new series on Netflix), but they love mysteries. Geronimo Stilton is also a super popular series from my classroom library, and they were eager to compare the two books since G.S. has codes, as well. But nothing quite as awesome as the code wheel. It's very popular with my students during independent reading time. I may have to read it aloud for our rest time so that everyone can enjoy it at once! If you like the book, you should look up the Google Earth Carmen Sandiego game! It's also based on the new cartoon series, but in the style of the original game.
