Before I opened the package I knew what was inside. Despite the plastic bags the strong cedar smell was abundant. Once I opened the bags each item had a strong cedar smell. I know this is genuine cedar because I had a rash after handling it. (I am allergic to cedar when I touch it. Smelling it has no effect on me.) I placed the items in drawers, cabinets and hung them in my closet. There is a very nice cedar smell in every location. How long will it last? I do not know, but I have sand paper and cedar oil on hand. (I did research, the smell will fade no matter how fresh your cedar is.) I am extremely happy with the price and the abundance of the product. You get exactly what you see. It seems like more once you have it, and it smells better than you imagine. This product deserved every single one of the stars I gave it and then some. This is my first cedar purchase, but I wouldn't change one single thing about it. I normally do not give reviews, but good work should be rewarded.

I was somewhat worried, based on the reviews posted here, that there would be an issue with these not smelling strong enough. Perhaps there have been some bad batches, but I can confidently report that the cedar pieces I just received (on 1/28/15) are quite fragrant! The moment I opened the box the scent became very evident, before I even opened the sealed plastic bags. I doubt I'll have any issue with these! I can't report on the efficacy of these as a moth repellent yet - I just received them and it's the winter so there're no moths - but either way they will make your clothes smell great! Several of my friends noted that they quite liked the smell, and would appreciate the "woodsy feel" it would give anyone bearing the scent. Based on the strength of the scent I doubt I'll have any moth problems either. As far as the actual products included in the pack go, it seems like an exceptional value! For the cost of any one of these products from other sellers, you get all four! More than enough to fully cover a decent size closet (with 20 hanger rings and 6 separate cedar hangers), as well as several dresser drawers (with a 5-pack of the nice little cedar bags). I haven't even figured out what to do with the 40 cedar blocks yet, but I figure they'd be great as additional cedar for a dresser, or perhaps to put on the floor of a closet. You could probably put them under or around your bed and windows too, as they theoretically repel all bugs, and also smell nice! On the whole, a great value, and a great (as far as I can tell so far) product!

The package came quickly and the pieces I received seem to be of good quality and in good condition. I enjoy very much that there are many different shapes/options to choose from. It is nice to have the hanging pieces to put up in the closets, and convenient that they come with easily attached hooks. I like that there are sachets for dresser drawers and cubes to toss in the back of cupboard shelves. I would rate "5" stars for selection. The only thing I am taking a star off for is that in my opinion the pieces do not have a very strong scent. There is definitely a pleasant cedar smell, but I have put a couple pieces in a closet and shut the door for a day to see how much the smell enveloped the closet and was surprised that there was not a stronger smell when I opened the door. I guess that one might see that as a positive, because you could have the opposite problem, but I was hoping for a bit more, since I really like the cedar smell.

I purchased two sets of this variety pack of cedar wood closet fresheners. We through the 1 inch cubes into the drawers for socks and shirts, the donut-shaped ones we hung on hangers in the closet with clothing, the satchels we put in with the linens and towels, and the rectangular blocks we put on shelves in the closet. If you have closets or linen closets that have MDF, or particle board, then you know how awful this material is and how bad it smells. MDF has been considered by the state of California to cause cancer. Once painted and sealed it probably isn't all that bad however, clothing and towels and linens can pick up the nasty odor. These cedar wood air fresheners do a great job of removing the odors as well as protecting the clothes from moths. We were able to use these in 3 clothing closets, a large linen closet, and two sets of drawers from just using the first package. I am breaking into the second package to do more with these cedar air fresheners. They do a great job! The cedar is real cedar and smells wonderful! You can't get these for a better price right now!

I guess I will have to use these cedar items for pests instead of for making my closets and drawers smell like the nice cedar aroma that I like. I purchased these for my closets and drawers. It's been a while since I've had cedar, over time they just got lost. So I thought I would purchase more to get that cedar smell back in my home. I just love the smell of cedar. But well these are not effective for making closets and draws smell good in my opinion. They don't have a strong cedar scent to begin with. I have used some in the past and they worked well in drawers and closets full aroma within a day or so. I've had these in my small closets and drawers for a week now. I will keep them and see what happens long term but as of right now, They are just ok hence my 3 star rating. -- i paid full price for this item. i was no given a discount in any way for this product. my review is that of my own.

This set of cedar shapes is economical. We've been using them for almost 2 years now - same ones. The cedar scent fades quickly, but that is no problem, because I buy pure cedar essential oil (the kind that goes in a essential oil diffuser) and put six drops of that on each block or sachet bag to "recharge". I don't bother with sanding them. No need. Essential oil of cedar is one of the lesser expensive oils out there. I will allow the cedar essential oil to soak into the wood shapes/sachetss for an hour and then put them back where they were. The dresser drawers, closets, storage totes, cars will then smell noticeably of cedar for months. No longer have moths or spiders in the closets. Just be aware, cedar wood, even fresh cut, eventually fades over time, and has to be replenished with cedar oil. Cedar oil will wash out of most fabrics, except maybe for silk or chiffon. If that is an issue, put the cedar block in a pantyhose stocking or mesh bag to store with things such as silk scarves. The cedar shavings sachets are used in our cars. Those too get replenished with cedar EO and work excellent. This set would make a wonderful gift if you include a bottle of essential cedar oil with it (Amazon sells it). I prefer to not use a cedar oil spray, because I find that several drops of the cedar oil lasts way longer and goes directly onto/into the wood and not the air as a spray does. Oh, and just because you cannot smell the cedar blocks when they have faded, does not mean insects or rodents with much more sensitive smell cannot.

I recently moved to an area with high humidity and was nervous about moths and other fabric-eating critters so I was pretty thrilled to find a Cedar value pack. I cannot stand the smell of mothballs and other repellents but anytime I'd find cedar it was so expensive regardless of the store. A pack of two cedar block hangers (like the ones that are included in this package) was about $8.00! I was still living with my in-laws in a mostly dry area but constantly finding tiny holes in my clothing as well as killing moths of all sizes, so I was nervous moving to an area where the humidity is at a steady 60-90%. Amazon tends to come to the rescue a majority of the time. I was skeptical ordering these because of the "too good to be true" thinking. I'm not sure if the cedar packs are inconsistent with each order but I did not have the issues others were disappointed with. Alright lets summarize this already: 1.) 71 marvelous pieces at a great price! 2.) Great variety of shapes and sizes for convenient use in many locations. 3.) The aroma was pretty overpowering at first, especially the bags, but we got used to it. 4.) Haven't noticed any holes in our clothing. 5.) The scent of the cedar still has not changed. (I mean come on people they're little cedar circles, balls, blocks, and bags- NOT an actual tree. Of course the scent will calm down. Sanding the cedar fixes that issue. And if that doesn't work, purchase a small bottle of cedar spray or essential oil to renew the scent for peace of mind. 6.) I'm still finding uses for all of these pieces...it really is a great deal. Hope this helps a decision or two. :)

Some people complain about their box having little scent, but please keep in mind: this is WOOD. Nothing more, nothing less. Fresh-cut wood has a strong smell, but it diminishes over time. There's no telling how long a given box will sit on Amazon's shelves before they send it out, so yours might smell less than someone else's, but that's the nature of the beast. If you don't like that, buy those awful moth balls that make your clothes smell like a toxic waste dump. That said, CedarFresh must be aware of the shelf-life issue, because they put the wood in plastic bags and add cedar oil in there, too. My box smelled strongly of cedar from the moment I opened it, even before opening any of the plastic bags. Like any wood, roughing it up with coarse sandpaper will bring back the scent. I've used cedar for years and I'm used to sanding the pieces now and then. Never had a problem with moth damage--and goodness knows we get a lot of moths in the house. My wife is now storing a lot of expensive fabric so I ordered this value pack to boost our Cedar Fu. We couldn't be happier with the quantity and assortment of sizes.
