can you use wood pellets in it

Yes I have tried and find that if I include pellets with some good wood chips it works great pellets by themselves not so good cuz it doesn't get hot enough

How long does it take to get a good smoked flavor on a steak with this box in a gas bbq.

This type has no holes in the bottom. It does not work properly. Get the Weber one that has holes top, bottom and sides. This one will will burn the wood without giving you any smoke. You will end up with charcoal though. The weber type works quickly and produces thick smoke but must be refilled regularly.

Doesn't Close Properly – Disappointing Performance.

I was excited to try this smoker box for my grill, but unfortunately, it didn’t work as expected. The lid wouldn’t close properly, making it difficult to use effectively. Even when it was in place, the smoke didn’t infuse the food like it should have. It’s not terrible, but it definitely didn’t meet my expectations.

Good smoker box

These last for about 5 or 6 years then fall apart. Well worth it. I soak wood chips or chunks in water for hours before using and it does a great job. I got this one at a 33% discount because it was returned or the box was damaged. Seemed perfect to me.
