Grover502BC Rotogrips Machine Heads

I bought these for my circa-1997 Made in Korea Epiphone Dot, to replace the stock tuners. At some point Epiphone started putting branded Grover tuners in their guitars but the ones I had were either unlabeled OEM tuners or copycats. Regardless, the new tuners were perfect drop-in replacements in terms of post width and screw hole positioning. One word of caution: these posts are a little shorter than the original rotomatics, so the string opening is a little closer to the bushing than before and the pegs themselves are lower profile. This is OK as they're locking so you don't need many winds of the string around the post anyway.The black threaded bushings that were provided appeared to be made of plastic, so I actually reused my original chrome bushings that threaded on perfectly. They were a bit longer than the provided ones but still secured the pegs fine and yielded a cool black n' chrome look on my headstock which I'm very happy with. The black chrome finish looks great, but time will tell how it holds up to use.As for performance, they lock the strings well with just a hand-tighten of the screw and the 18:1 tuning ratio helps to prevent overshooting your desired pitch. They're fairly heavy and have a nice smooth torque when turning that I think my original tuners lacked. Overall I'm very happy with the product, and I think everything I have cited here is applicable to the 502Cs (shiny chrome) as well.

High quality Grover locking tuners - direct replacements for the non-locking units. If I recall correctly, the alignment of the screw holes was not exact and I had to fill the old holes with toothpicks and glue, but a small, if unexpected inconvenience. Very happy with my purchase!

Easy to install (61 SG) They look great and feel great.

I would say that Grover has been out for a long time they are well made.One thing you should check before you get these keys is make shore that the mountingscrew on the tuning keys match the same as the ones you have right now. Myguitar is a Yamaha so the holes were in the same place otherwise you will have to drill newones (not a big deal)

For the most part, I think they're fantastic. They look great on my Les Paul and just feel solid. However, the jury is still out regarding functionality. On the very first tuner I installed, the little "pin" that actually screws up and locks the string in place would not fall/drop into the tuner mechanism making it impossible to thread the string through the tuner. It was blocking the hole. I had to screw and unscrew the mechanism that holds the pin in place several times before it would actually drop. Strange issue it seems - but not really...I little research on the interwebs and evidently this is a fairly common problem with these Grovers.We'll see what happens on the next string change. I'm hoping that everything works smoothly. But if not, you have to take a small screwdriver, paper clip, safety pin, whatever - and reach in and push the pin down manually. Frankly, that's pretty lame. But all could be well with time. We shall see. As long as you can get the strings in the holes and lock them down, the tuners seem to do their job quite well.

I've read that locking machine heads do not work as described. Well, I just switched from Grover 102s, to Grover 502 locking machine heads, and what a difference. Not long ago I added a Bigsby to my Gibson SG and the 102s failed miserably at keeping tune. I just installed the 502s. The strings are only an hour old and the 502s are doing their job superbly despite that the strings aren't broke in yet. I also own two Gretsch 6120s with Sperzels, and I can see already that I like the Grovers better. Reason: 18:1 ratio on the Grovers, and 14:1 on the Sperzels. And that's huge when put into practice.

These are rock solid and Grover has a lifetime guarantee so that’s awesome. These were a perfect replacement on my Epiphone Les Paul that already had Grovers in it. Swapping these in was super easy; one screw on the back and the nut on the front and the old were off and the new were on.

Grover makes great tuners, put these to use on gibson LP Studio, black chrome looks slick, super stable tuning with the lockers, also makes string changing a breeze. 18:1 ratio allows for accuracy, very pleased overall with product and seller. Something to consider is the screw on the back is straight down on these, stock tuners I had were offset. Had my tech fill in the old holes when he installed, he did a good job but it left slight imperfections on the back of headstock, doesn't bother me on a 20 yr old workhorse, but it may bother some. Product received was brand new in package, received within the week I ordered.
