The Unmumsy Mum
J**C
Best parenting book ever
A must have for every new mum (and dad)! The unmumsy mum tells it like it is - not a warts and all version, or the shiny magazine version - just the day-to-day realities of parenting. I laughed, cried, or cried with laughter the whole way through. Sarah's frank and hilarious tone makes it feel less like reading and more like you're sitting down with a friend over a glass of wine.

Engaging
It was engaging and I got a few laughs. Well written.I enjoyed it but probably wouldn't recommend it, it being a bit... pessimistic.. I think the author is bang on in her blurb.

Get this bloody book!!!!! So funny.
Not even on chapter 4 and loving every bloody second of this book. This mum is just hilarious and says it all as I would but publicly. Book is a must have for mums or mums to be. Hell for dads too. Just plain entertaining. Written well and keeps you wanting more.

Refreshingly honest.
Best read I've had in years. As a first time mum the unmumsy mum really resonates with me. She's so refreshingly honest and humourous. I find myself nodding to every single sentence, laughing and crying along with the stories. Highly recommended to all the mums!

I would recommend this book to any parent, it's brilliantly written and honest to boot! I felt like it was wrote all about my life and it was comforting to know that I'm not alone.

Too negative – I really don't get all those positive reviews
I know this book is supposed to be funny and make you laugh about bringing up children etc. but I just found it to be quite negative after reading "French Children Don't Throw Food", which I thought was great. It's just my personal opinion, but I prefer to read more empowering, positive books, so stopped reading this book after about 100 pages. Also, as other reviews have stated, DO NOT buy this for expectant parents (I started reading it during pregnancy) as it just shines a super negative light on parenthood and made me feel a bit miserable.

Very effective contraceptive
Definitely amsuing and engaged me enough to read through it very quickly. Provided a lot of insight and certainly lots of entertaining little anecdotes. However, I'd bought this book after really enjoying her blog and unfortunately had to knock a star off as I didn't find this book quite as good or as sharp as her blog writing.I would say that this book has fundamentally put me off having children (probably for life) - so for that, maybe I have to thank the author as I am now feeling as though I've dodged a bullet.Maybe this book should be included as essential reading in the national curriculum for teenagers to put others off too because it certainly does make parenthood sound miserable, though I do understand that may not be everyones experience.I would suggest NOT to buy this book for parents-to-be as I think this book will give soon-to-be parents a sense of impending doom as it can get quite heavy at times but will no doubt bring lots of laughter to those who already have children.

Brilliant, made me feel so much better!
I discovered this book just after my baby was born and it had me in stitches! Never before has a book simultaneously reassured and entertained me. The honesty is so refreshing and this book reached out to me when the going got tough. Far from negative, I feel it reflects the highs as well as the lows of motherhood. I have just had my second child and starting the sleepless nights again so have started re-reading. Brilliant book, highly recommended to all Mums, particularly if you’re feeling low or knackered or that you’re not cut out for motherhood! Thank you so much for this!

ABSOLUTELY UNPUTDOWNABLE!
Oh, how i wish this book had been around when i was pregnant with my son! This is better than ANY parenting manual, because it's real life and no manual can interpret that! I couldn't put it down, laughed like crazy and remembered 'being' in situations like hers. So good, i bought one for my friend-she had the same reactions. Please, please, if you want to laugh yourself sick, buy this book now!

Boring not funny
I can’t get into this. It’s too repetitive and I suppose I’d expected funny stories based on other people saying it’s funny but it feels a bit stretched out on repeatedly saying how much the author loves her children but how hard it is to have them playing loudly etc etc. As a mother to a baby with many difficulties I just felt alienated from it and the only bit I truly enjoyed was the anecdote by someone about the child at the wedding
