That's My Girl: How a Father's Love Protects and Empowers His Daughter

Very applicable.
This book is an easy read but also addresses a lot of issues about a father and daughter. I thought the book was very well written with a lot of examples of what he is talking about as well as very encouraging to any father. Most men will like this and read this as he is very practical and straight forward; but interesting and not dry at all.I read this book as I now have a grown daughter (as well as 3 sons) and my husband was a wonderful father. This author is right on with his thoughts and ideas. I will buy this book for my sons and my son-in-law when they have daughters. My sons had a great example in their father, but this book will help encourage them and help them to try to understand what the daughter is going feeling and how the relationship between father/daughter shapes many of the experiences that the daughter will have in her life.Very well done.

Truly an eye opening and life impacting book!
The Men's Ministry team at my church choose this book for a class on Father's raising daughters. The dads that signed up to take this class all have commented on how surprising and how valuable the information in this book has been. I had the priveledge to facilitate the class and it was amazing to watch and listen to dads as they learned from each other and from the book. There were so many "light bulb" moments for everyone. There is so much information in this book that at times it can be overwhelming. I made the suggestion to the participants in the class that they make a promise to themselves to read the book once a year (minimum) and to make it easy to remember, to do it in conjunction with their daughter'(s) birthday. Every dad, regardless of how old your daughter(s) is/are needs to read this book!!

Dad's, this 'the' book for you
I have read many father-daughter books, including books by Leman, Meeker, Dobson, McDowell, MacArthur, Kelly, Cocciara, Chapman, and Payleitner (to name them all...), but this is the only book I bought a copy of for another dad... when I was only on page 73. The books previously mentioned each provided some helpful insights, but 'Mister' Johnson gets down to brass tacks with what it means to protect our daughters. He has a writing style I found enjoyable, with humorous anecdotes sprinkled in.A couple specifics I will use include: Things Your Daughter Needs to Know about Boys (p. 131), What to Bring on a Date (p.134), and the suggestion to take her on daddy-daughter 'dates', things to talk about and behaviors to model on these dates... as well as reminiscences of women who had 'dates-with-dad and what they meant. While I feel I told my daughter I loved her fairly frequently to this point, after reading this book and understanding the impact of these words on my daughter, I tell her I love her a lot more often now. Please feel free to read the other authors mentioned above, but make sure you include a copy of this book amongst them.

Required Reading for all Dads!
Very good book by Rick Johnson and should be required reading for all dads, young and old alike. There's more to being a dad than just "being there". Instead, having a more active role in your daughter's life. Rick shares some good, humorous stories of his experiences while raising a daughter; including good examples of how to better your relationship with your daughter. I'm not sharing those ideas in this review, read the book to find out!

Mandatory Reading
This well written book should be mandatory reading for all fathers with a daughter. From man to man, the author has is has an effective way of introducing the world of how women (including young girls) think and what's important to them. Even fathers with daughters who have moved out on their own will benifit from this. It's a short read that gets to the point and has an element of entertainment. Don't hesitate to read this if you have a daughter because they are infinately priceless compared to the cost and time to read this. I bought extra copies to hand out to friends.

So excited about this book
I ordered this book for my husband as we are expecting our first girl in a few weeks. I took a sneak peak and read a bit myself and I was impressed. I cant really review the whole book because I have yet to read it nor has my husband as I plan on giving it to him in his gift basket for the hospital but I am really excited about reading this book and for him to read it. Even just the first few pages that I did read I felt like the author was so right on with what he was saying. I come from a broken home with my biological father not in my life and my husband comes from his family staying together and his parents being married his whole life and still to do this day so he doesnt really get my paranoia on why it is SO important to me that our daughter grows up with both of her parents, to him it is just a way of life, the way it should be. I will definitely be updating the review once the book has been finished.

Great read for dads!
My husband isn't a big reader, but I bought this for him and put it on top of his bathroom magazine stack. To my surprise, the bookmark moves a little more each day. He's even mentioned that he didn't realize how much his actions would impact her as she grows up. He's a great dad already, but I feel this book is encouraging him to push even further!

Dads You Will Not be Disappointed With This Book
Excellent reading not only to learn about your child's characteristics but also to learn why women think and react to things the way they do.
