Great Tragedy: Winter Dance Party 1959

Very well done!
I am very pleased with the product. I've read some reviews calling some of the tracks muffled and such. They may not be remastered quality, but they are at the least ,serviceable, and at best what you would expect. This CD gives you a window into a show from that tour, with tracks I've never heard before from the lesser artists. The news flashers, though short add to the feeling of the tour and the history. The tribute tracks are a plus, really taking you back to the emotion of the time. My dad was a big fan of Buddy's as he was of the time. I became a fan through his record collection. This is a very enjoyable and well compiled work. Well done, Bear Family.

Recording #14 "It's So Easy" skips on my recorder. Most likely a flaw in the cd.
A great cd in spite of a flaw on the track listed above.

For a single CD, Bear Family did a good job
There are no live recordings from the winter dance party because none were made (that we know of). There are 40 tracks on this single CD. It has the winter dance party radio promos, the best studio hits of the three, fine cuts from the other performers, and the Rare single from Debbie Stevens. This also has a couple of early interviews with Buddy Holly by Alan Freed. It has some of the radio reports of the crash and a few (admittedly awful) Tribute singles that were rushed out. On the whole, Bear Family did as good of a job of putting this single CD together as one could reasonably expect. This is not, of itself, a "Classic", but it is a fine tribute and remembrance of three great artists, and one wretched day.

Remembering
Good songs by artists of an era never to be duplicated. Didn't need the narrative in between sets. Was a detractor to me.

Piece of history...
Fascinating cd. Includes many promos for the ultimately tragic event. The day the music died will live on infamy. Bear Family hits a home run documenting it all, featuring great performances by all the principals. Be sure to get Volune 2 which picks up the history of the tour after the tragedy. I loved it. Bravo Bear Family!!

Sounds like AM 50s radio or old 45 rpm records
I have loads of Bear Family CDs with great sound quality but this does not sound like a Bear Family CD. Mushy sound and no bass. On Peggy Sue Buddy Holly sounds like he is back in the cheap seats with only the instrumental bridge coming in at twice the volume of the muddy vocal. I've heard these songs numerous times and never have they sounded so bad. The booklet, however, is awesome. I guess the booklet is worth the cost of the package but there are many places to get these songs in much better quality sound.

Good archive material
An interesting take on the events of February 2nd & 3rd 1959. One star knocked off because tracks 20 to 23 are there but not in the order shown on the back of the CD or on 'sleeve notes'.
