The Complete Walking With... Collection

5 DVD's
You get 5 dvd's in this collection. One dvd is entirely devoted to 'Big Al' the Alasaurus who's fossil was discovered in Wyoming where now a gravesite exists(149 million B.C-'Big Al'[The Predator Who Couldn't] because he died at 6(a year before his prime) of exposure waiting for rain to come to a dried up river. The poor guy was pretty banged up including a severely infected/swollen toe that pretty much spelled his doom. On the main disc you get 8 30 minute episodes of 'Walking W Dinosaurs' that starts with the early Triassic(the birth of dinosaurs) and ends with the End of Cretaceous Extinction(the end of them except the birds which are dinosaurs although they don't look much like them). Each episode deals in depth with different dinosaurs, the huge fern eating ones, the not so huge but heavily armored ones, the carniverous ones, the marine reptiles, the dinosaurs that lived at the South Pole 106 million years ago before the planet started to freeze and T-Rex who evolved just a few million years before the end of them. Even without the comet strike it seems they were on their way out due to a massive and fast increase in volcanism(but not on the scale of the Permian Extinction). It's good alternative viewing to Sunday football. Disc 3 is 'Walking With Beasts' and covers the period from 50 million years ago to about 30,000 years ago,(just about the time Cro-Magnums were offing the last of the Neanderthals). It's just as good as 'Walking W Dinosaurs' and has a very well done take on the dawn of humanity I think. The other two discs deal with the making of the previous 2 discs. This collection does not include 'Walking W Monsters' which is also very good but you'll have to buy it separately.

dinosaurs in action
Best of its kind, I would say. A movie type introduction to a species that occupied the earth long before humans did, and you get to see the world that we missed. ( no regrets here.) At the end it makes you wonder if the human species can not also be " replaced". Very life like creatures and as for me, true to the knowledge we have of them; although, a paleontologist may find some discrepancies in it. Would recommend it for family view for entertainment as well as learning. A real popcorn night.

Awesome collection!
Of course we all get the standard breeze-over learning about dinosaurs while going through elementary school. Then the movie Jurassic Park showed what technology could do in terms of recreating what dinosaurs looked like. Now this collection brings together the best of both worlds, teaching exactly what the best experts believe life was like in the time of the dinosaurs, combined with the ability to actually show it happening. It's tons of fun to watch and feel like a kid again, amazed by how much different the world was back then. I highly recommend this to kids, ages 1 to 100.

great learning/entertainment all in one
the best animal/dinosaur movie series I have seen so far, this Walking with dinosaurs series has my 4 year talking circles around his teachers at preschool. He is an expert in Inteledons, T-rexs, various sea creatures, smilodons (yes, the sabre tooth tiger I learned when I was growing up is wrong terminology :), etc. BBC has put together Jurassic park like special effects with superb writing and narrative by Branagh to make an exceptional series good for adults and kids. My only warning is that it shows nature as it truly was - creatures get eaten, hyena-dogs crap on their victims, etc, but the violence is not gratuitous nor will it cause any nightmares in your kids. If anything they will beg you to buy various creatures so they can act out the movies. If you are a Christain fundamentalist who reads the Bible literally and thinks the world is 5,000 years old (yes, unfortunately that's 40% of you according to the polls!), you won't like how this series drives home the point that our species has only been around for 4-5 million years and that's a mere drop in the bucket in evolutionary terms. I highly recommend this.

Ultimate dinosaur dvd set for kids too
This set is a must have for any dinosaur lover. My future paleontologists, Will (5 years) and Annelise (2 years), watched these every day for the first six months. We've had the set for a year now, and we still watch about twice a month. Whenever a playmate comes over, he or she requests watching a dvd from the Walking With collection. The kids especially like to watch in the van. They are fun to view, informative, well-organized, beautiful, timeless and interesting for all ages.

A complete set of dinosaurs
If you are a fan of prehistoric animals, you should get this one. There are some exaggerations about some facts but those, too sounds great. You'll come to know about different dinosaurs at different periods. A great collection.

What a show!
What a fantastic buy. Well worth the money. Besides having the best visual effects to date, the video takes a documentary-style approach, following particular dinosaurs throughout a period of their lives, thereby creating a personal connection between the viewer and dinosaur. The only drawback was that it left me wanting more. I want to see similar representations of Dilophosaurus, Maiasaura, Troodon, and basically every other dinosaur out there. Since that's obviously impossible, this video set is quite a feat. You WON'T regret this buy.
