Citadel of God: A Novel about Saint Benedict
N**K
Citadel of God: A recomendation for historical fiction lovers as well as those interested in the lives of the saints.
It was an entertaining read and difficult to put down at times. For the overall length and structure it was a reasonable amount to read, but not too much. The structure of the book goes in chronological order from the birth of Benedictus to the last know workings of his life. The book is broken up into parts and does not only focus on the life of the main character Benedictus, but talks about all else that is going on in and around Italy. The author spares no detail and makes the reader feel as if they are there with the characters. Plenty of imagery to create your idea of what everything looks like. Overall, I would recomend this book to anyone who is interested in the lives of the saints. Though this novel is more closely related to histoical fiction it still provides the sense of wonderment surrounding Saint Benedict.

Enjoyable read
Started out slow but so glad I stuck with it. Couldn't put it down by the end. Great characters and love the historical fiction based on the life and time of St. Benedict.

Informative and historic
Great story, hard to put down once you start. The only thing I wished different is that at times seems to be more about the history of Italy than about the life of St Benedict.

Enriching
Though I bought the book primarily to learn more about St Benedict , as a history buff I found myself captivated by the very interesting backstory and all of the various historical figures who played such a major role in Rome during this time period. I also achieved my main objective of developing a deeper appreciation not only for Benedict's spirituality but for the practical skills that he possessed as well. This is my second DeWohl book and I will soon move on to number 3 based on this reading experience.

One Of The Best Books Yet
This novel, Citadel of God, about St. Benedict is a must read, it's one of the best books yet, I loved it, it's very detail, exciciting, interesting, and hellarious at times. I'm not dissapointed at all for I thought it was going to be kind of boring, the characters and the city of Rome which is in chaos comes alive with vivid details and characters that take you back to St. Benedict's time. St. Benedict is truly a man of God, and dedicated his whole life to Him by builing and living in famous monestaries which were truly Citadels of God.

Louis De Wohl's novels
This is the 3rd of Louis De Wohl's historical novels that I have read and they are consistently good reads. De Wohl has a talent for making his stories believable with enough fact included so they are informative about the life of the saint as well as being entertaining reading. I am interested in St. Benedict because of the impact his life and teachings have had on modern spirituality and I was not disappointed in this book.

Wonderful book
I received this book as a gift recently. Once I picked it up, I could not put it down. The title of the book implies that it is a novel about St. Benedict, but he is actually just one of many characters in this historical novel. DeWohl does a wonderful job describing the Roman world at the time of St. Benedict, making it come to life.If you are a fan of historical fiction, read this book. If you are a fan of Louis DeWohl, read this book.
