Sorry, ProudGuy, thed light switch does not function. Reason: The groove that;s supposed to accommodate the tiny button on the battery holder upon opening the magnifier to position 1 (no light) is too long, it still "accomodates" in position 2 (light on). Circuitry is OK, as light comes on when the case is apart and you depress he battery holder. Also, one of the little guides on the battery holder broke off on the first time I put in batteries. Now the battery holder fllaps about. I fixed that by applying 2 small strips of cellotape. still, no light on pulling out to position 2 Will use it wo/ light until I have time to reengineer.

I am giving 3 stars because it was defective (light wouldn't work and the battery cover was broken. But fortunately Amazon.com has already ordered a replacement. Hopefully this one will work and I'll be able to up my rating!

The instructions for installing the batteries were extremely cryptic. Once I put it back together the light worked intermittently after fiddling around with the cover.

It is not sturdy. The plastic case is flimsy. When I opened it to insert the batteries a piece broke off.
