Fortress Budapest: The Siege of the Hungarian Capital, 1944-45 Hardcover – August 27, 2020

I have a lot of really rare and expensive military books (1000 pages on the Ratel or 1700 on Prokhorovka, sign me up!), and I have to say this one really stands out. The first book is a gigantic treatise on the battle. All text but really nice and detailed. The star here though is the companion book. 68 individual stronghold maps, with lines of fire. Great sketches of attacks and paths. I don’t think I’ve seen such detail in any other book. This guy really did his homework. It’s amazing. I’ve been to a number of these streets and corners in person, and seen the war damage and bullet holes that remain to this day, and to be able to cross reference that experience with defensive drawings is surreal. Lots of great pics I’ve never seen before. Highly recommend this. I know the price is high, but when it sells out I bet it’s going to go for $200+.
