Q: I need a pump with an intake only on one side/the front. This looks like it's the case with this one. Does anyone know for sure?

Yes, that is the case with this pump. I used the pump all summer with no problems, except periodic cleaning of the filter. But, it seems to run fine without the filter, so I took it out.

Q: I need a pump that can attach to a garden hose which will attach to a mister. Is this one that can do that?

No. You also need to know the distance u need to move water as well as your water pressure. In addition most of these pumps must be submersed

Q: Another question...the manual has a picture of the mag 1.5 pump with optional wrap around filter...what exactly is that?

It is a foam block with a square/rectangle hole cut out of the center that your pump sits in. It acts as a strainer filter. You can order that part it's 12600 if you wanted it.Lisa
