no need to wear a beanie under this for comfort. And the ears are like built in ear muffs. The top slidable vent is nice but I can't tell how much effect it hasDON'T Pull on ear padding to pull the helmet down. Only pull on the straps. Ear pads will pop off, but fortunately they click right back inI also haven't crashed hard since using it 5 times so I can't say how protective it is, but otherwise it's great
