The book to start your travel planning.
I love the "feel" of these heavy little books which are made of glossy full color pages. These books are not very good for getting you around when you are traveling and I rarely take them with me on a trip. The information listed about each city and sight is extremely limited, sometimes amounting to no more than a sentence or two. But I can't help giving them five stars anyway because I LOVE LOVE LOVE the DK Eyewitness Guides as my first introduction to a city, state or country. I own dozens of them. It's always the first book I buy when I'm considering a travel destination because it contains color pictures of almost everything. The book points out the most important sites to see and then shows less important places as well. The photos enable me to narrow down which places I want to visit. Even better than the photos are the in depth diagrams of places like churches and museums. After studying the map/diagram I have a good knowledge of how to get around the place once I arrive. These books are great "eye candy" and great arm chair reading. You'll still need to buy another travel book like a Rough Guide or Lonely Planet handbook but DK Eyewitness books are the place to start your travel planning.

The Book On Philtown
This guide book is slightly out of date now, but it features some cutaway diagrams of Philadelphia buildings which you won't find anywhere else. It also has plenty of photos to serve as inspiration for making the trip. I'm not sure why all the Philadelphia guide books include Lancaster and the Pennsylvania Dutch Country because that area is actually far from the city and deserves its own book. This book is so old that the Comcast Center does not even appear in any of its skyline photos. There are other changes you should be aware of. For example, SEPTA is eliminating the confusing "R" and numbers and rebranding Regional Rail using the current destination names. And today I learned that the Prince Theater on Chestnut Street is going bankrupt so something may change there.

Comprehensive travel book
The Eyewitness Travel guides have become my favorite travel books - they are comprehensive yet still easy to follow. I moved to Philadelphia recently and wanted a book to become familiar with the area and explore. It's more comprehensive than I could have imagined. Sometimes a bit hard to follow because attractions are organized according to city neighborhoods (which I'm not familiar with yet - and the only reason I gave the review a 4 star), but otherwise it's very informative. Hours, contact information, restaurant prices are all very accurate.

Not bad
Good information, photos, maps, etc. I like how the book is divided by area in the city & that it includes the Dutch country. My main issue with this book is the lack of pricing or website information for museums, attractions, etc. I understand this information can become outdated quickly but it would be so helpful to offer a website where they maintain up-to-date costs. A version for Philly w/ kids would be great too!

DK eyewitness guides always the best
I use the DK guides literally all over the world. If there isn't one available for a destination, I will then buy another guide. For 25 yrs, these are consistently reliable. I check opening hours of events, but DK seems to be right all the time so I don't bother any more. Good maps. color coded tabs allow quick access to different subdivisions. I don't bother with the hotel section, but I sometimes use the restaurant guides. Every DK is organized the same way, so I know where electricity and currencies sections are in every guide.

Great Book for getting around town
All of these DK books are great. If you travel, I recommend any of their books. They are short, sweet and combine well written discriptions of what's in the town your visiting. They also include great photos, animated pictures and details of many of the travel destinations you might want to see. Well worth the money.

A very useful and informative guide
I took this book to Philly, but as it also covers some of the surroundings areas(which I had no plans on visiting), I removed those pages to make the book a little lighter. This is very useful and informative, and I used it throughout my stay there.

DK guides are the best tourist guides in my opinion
DK guides are the best tourist guides in my opinion, clearly laid out and with easy to read maps. This one for Philadelphia is no exception, and has given me lots of tips for an upcoming summer vacation. Recommended.
