Very useful guide!
This is a VERY well written guide. Really helps you plan your trip! Good advice. Bunch of lists. Color coded with page number references & great pictures! The maps inside are really well done as well; but I do wish there was a larger pullout map like some of the other guides. I have this and a Frommers guide in the form of an iPad app. Both are good. This one is better, but there are definite benefits to the Frommers being an app! Still, very happy with this!

Good info but somewhat confusing structure.
Found it a little bit hard to find my way around on the kindle app but did its job in the end.

Not helpful.
Really not useful. Went to Costa Rica in May 2014 and didn't find this book helped us at all. Found a lot of the information to be inaccurate.

The Best Guide Book Available
This is the best guide out there. The "Moon" book was okay, but the author seemed to interject his snarky opinion anywhere he could... Not the case with this book. It gives you options to suit your budget in every situation, and really gets you off the beaten path to some really nice places. Costa Rica is an incredible country and this book will get you around in a very practical way.

Buy the FULL Lonely Planet -- NOT this one!
Whenever we head to a new destination for a vacation, I pick up a Lonely Planet for our trip, no matter how short or how long. I try to get the most recent edition, even if I have an older edition, because the updated information makes a big difference. So I didn't think twice when I bought this one, thinking it was the most recent edition of a standard Lonely Planet. I was wrong. This is more of a highlights book. I didn't realize there was a "Discover [country]" series that did not include all the information of a standard country edition. The difference in publication years threw me off (I thought they were just redesigning their look.) In any case, this book does not contain nearly as much information or detail as the main Lonely Planet book, and I don't honestly know why this even exists. We missed out on stuff and didn't have all the info we needed because we used this for five days (on a 9-day trip) before we realized it wasn't the complete Lonely Planet. (They've done several redesigns, so I didn't realize it was a different line of books altogether.) In any case, don't waste your time on this one. Get the actual full Lonely Planet Costa Rica edition, even if you're just there a few days or a week like us.

Okay guide for most of Costa Rica
The guide is okay for some parts of Costa Rica - especially the coast lines (Pacific and Caribbean). But many places are not mentioned. Many hostel and hotel details are not updated and the maps are few and a good overall map of the country is missing.

Great maps and places to see from locals
Lonely Planet never lets me down. From New York, Peru, and Rome Lonely Planet has been by my side. Great maps and places to see from locals. Just the right amount of pictures and maps so one has a great sense of where to visit. Cant go wrong with Lonely Planet.

Lonely Planet Costa Rica
Lonely Planet books are the BEST! Even if you have a smart phone, buy one and take it with you. You never know when and if you will be able to connect to the Internet.
