Veterinary Ophthalmology: Two Volume Set 5th Edition

the cover of my book fell off the day I got the book. This thing is not going to last me 4 days let along till boards :(

Amazing and comprehensive book for veterinarians. An absolutely essential book for veterinary ophthalmologists. My 2 sets of hard back books have been holding up very well and were purchased just after publication. Kindle version is great for searching quickly.

I had to return the first set of volumes immediately, as the binding of the larger book was already broken and the corner of the cover damaged as well. The second set I received was in fine condition. However, now, 6 months later, the binding of the second volume is once again broken. They were smart to break this into more than 1 volume, but it should have been 3 volumes instead of 2. The second volume is clearly too large for the binding to last, especially with heavy use through a 3 year residency. Looks like I'll be gluing it back together for the next 2.5 years!

I find this book very useful and it covers many subject areas in good detail. I find it a good reference text. I have the kindle/tablet version and find that the search facility and index lets it down - it can be very difficult to find what you are after. I think this could be improved significantly. I bought the kindle version of this edition because Volume Two is so big and uncomfortable to carry or have on your knee to read - I would have preferred three volumes rather than two for this reason. Overall I find the information in this book very valuable and recommend it.

Previous editions of this book are notoriously hard to read and are renowned for their terrible index. Regardless I decided to purchase this edition as it is "the bible of veterinary ophthalmology". I purchased the kindle edition an it is this version that I am reviewing. In 10 months not once have I been able to find what I am looking for in this book, the index is terrible, there are no links or page numbers even if you DID find what you need in the index, it is no more than an extensive list of alphabetically listed words. After several occasions of 15minutes of searching for the table of contents (unsuccessfully) I have to say I have completely given up on this book. My biggest regret is that I didn't buy the paper version as at least the would have served as a door stop.
