Good basic book for diabetics
This book discusses all things related to eating for diabetes. There are only a few recipes, but a lot of advice. Topics cover "sugar-free" and sweeteners to proteins and fiber. There is advice on eating out , portion control, glycemic index and other topic related to food. It is also fairly easy to read.

Title told it was about people just starting to work with diabetes.
I haven’t read much of it yet, but what I have is well written and has info on what I need to know.

Very Informative Book
I absolutely was consumed by the first half of this book. There were many of my questions answered and I marked the book up with highlighters & sticky notes. The second half seemed very out dated and as though the writers did not really want to be writing about Omega-3 and other supplements. It did need more recipes! I had thought there would be more ideas on what to cook . "The Brushetta Baked Potatoes" were great ! Even though the title is a little misleading it is packed with information for those of us who are novices to Type 2 Diabetes & reading labels for Carbohydrates. I would buy it again simply for the tid-bits of information that are written in a simple to understand way. However, if you are looking for recipe's this is not the book. If you are looing for general information and like me are basically starting at zero information I would say buy it!

sweet, to the point
I purchased this book over a year ago when I found out I had type 2 diabetes. I've used it frequently since then. It's short, sweet, to the point. Easy clear charts and information about what your numbers mean and what to do about them. It's a great guide to setting up a plan to change your habits and lifestyle to manage your diabetes. I refer to it again and again for guidance and new ideas, suggestions. I would recommend it to anyone with type 2 diabetes, especially if you just found out you have it. It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I've made great progress. I lost 35 pounds in 6 months. I've managed to keep it off. I recently bumped back up about 5 pounds, but I should be able to lose that pretty quickly by putting my careful measures in place.Great book.

Good starting point...
A good source of knowledge but I really didn't learn much i didn't already learn from other sources. It's a good starting point for someone just diagnosed with diabetes. The bottom line is you can still eat pretty much anything within reason and not to excess. Gotta get in exercise, too, to control your diabetes.

I'm so glad that I got this book
I'm so glad that I got this book. I got some other books from the library that were not as easy to understand as this book. It is very comprehensive and gives you almost all you need to know to handle your type II diabetes. I have so many pages marked with post-its for future reference. Also includes recipes and info on fast food and eating out. This is an invaluable book for anyone who has been diagnosed with this condition.

It's always good to know what is good and what is bad for you (besides junk food).
This book is great even if you don't have type 2 diabetes or not.. I bought this book because I was told by my last doctor visit that I was borderline pre-diabetes. Well I'm making wiser decisions because I don't want to fall into the border. It explains nutrition, carbohydrates, portion size how to understand food labels etc. and so much more. I believe in researching for myself after all your doctor doesn't have the time to tell you everything.

Excellent resource, can not recommend enough!
I really wish I had this information when I was first diagnosed. Patti took the time to explain to me (all of us, actually) things that I still haven't been educated on. And I was diagnosed 4 years ago! Well I may have lived those years uniformed, but that is in the past. It is a great resource that I plan to refer back to every chance I get. It is great to have someone explain to you the difference between carb choices & carb grams, although this I learned the hard way. It is very refreshing to have someone speak to me in a manner that understand that although far from stupid, I do not hold a PhD. Thank you for taking the time to write this for the laymen, like myself
