Sweet Book for 3rd Culture/Mixed-Race Children
It's a sweet story that provides a tangible example of how 3rd culture/mixed-race children are similar to, and different from, their communities. It celebrates their uniqueness, reinforces their similarities, and lets them know both are good things. It also makes a connection to Jesus, explaining how he is "swirly" too (a great reinforcement of acceptance for Christian families).

Learning how to face cultural differences
What happens when we grow up in a different culture from our birth culture? Swirly is a wonderful illustrated story of a girl who has to navigate the cultural differences between her family and her host culture. This book explores the emotional ride of being a TCK ("third culture kid"), as the main character learns who she is and how she fits into the world around her. While this book is perfect for TCKs or expat families, it's great for anyone anywhere. The moment you step out of your family of origin, you hit cultural difference, however small they may be. You best friend's family isn't the same as yours, with different rules, values, etc. Swirly helps us take a peek into what it means to define ourselves in the midst of cultural differences and appreciate those differences.

Bookshelf worthy
The first time I read this, I was both happy and hopeful. I am grateful for the content and illustrations of this book. I wish I had something like this to read as an MK, but now, I know that it's something I can treasure and pass on to other fellow MKs.

Great resource
This book is fabulous! I’ve spent the last four years teaching kindergarteners at an international Christian school, and I wish I had had this in my classroom as a resource. I’ve enjoyed even as an adult who has returned to my home country.

Third culture kids
Sweet way to help young kids adjusting to growing up in a culture different than their parents culture and having difficulty with figuring out where they belong (or adults who themselves experienced it as children.)

Excellent for young Third Culture Kids (TCKs)
I bought this for my 3 & 6 year old who are TCKs and found I could relate to it too having also been a TCK.Possibly the best explanation I've seen out there for kids, to explain how we feel different and yet part of a culture which isn't our passport country..Really recommended for young TCKs
