Previous model (Kodiak) is superior, more quality and more practical in real world.
Can't give it a 1 star because it is a great product from a great company, but three stars because the Kodiak was superior to the Apex. Why? because the Kodiak weighs 5 pounds less @ 20lbs (Apex 25lbs), Kodiak allows 600watt charging (not 500 like Apex), users can use different solar panels with Kodiak (Apex only allows their proprietary panels), build quality of Kodiak is better with one simple button (the Apex knob is fragile and cables break as well), Kodiak is more tolerant to amp usage and run times (Apex is too touchy and will go into protection mode for the stupidest things). The only advantage I see in the newer Apex is that you can use their external lithium batteries which are lighter than AGM batteries (I don't know nor confirmed that the Kodiak can use their lithium extended batteries as the user manual indicates no lithium but it can be outdated). If you make a product to supersede, it should be an improvement in many or all points, not make it inferior, less features, more fragile and a little less practical.

You can only use their solar panel!
Their previous version of this was much better. With this one you can only use their solar panel! This limits you considerably

Great Customer Service
I like the Battery, but first time I used it on a trip the on off button fell off. I also purchased the 30 foot cord to the solar panel and the wire on that came completely out of the plug. Quality lacking. After Speaking with the customer service department. They are sending me out a new cord and advised me on how to fix the button issue.

Nice product
Great product, I also bought the solar panels to go with It. You can hook up the solar panels charge while you're using it 5 stars

Powers the basics
You need to be aware of how much power everything uses so you can maximize its usefulness.

It will work for some situations but the specs are misleading
I did a full detailed review on my website powered portable solar and a video on Minute Man Prep. I paid for my Apex out of my own pocket I am not sponsored by Inergy in any way. The Apex will work for some situations but pretty much it will not run more than about 850 watts non-stop until empty. At 1,500w draw it will go for about 3.5 mins. 1,400w draw about 5 minutes. 1,300w draw about 5 mins and so on. So as long as the usage needs are less than 900 watts for non stop draw then it works great. I do like that it has an RV plug but it's only rated to about 12.5 amps according to the user manual. It also says on the side of the Apex to only connect Inergy batteries but they haven't released those so I tested adding my own battery and found that the screen does not readout properly with my own battery. If or when Inergy releases their battery it may not have that problem.

Dead after 18 months light use
This unit was purchased new. It has not been very reliable. At first, it worked great! The inverter stopped delivering the rated output; some appliances were working, and it no longer worked. Finally, the unit shut down, could not be reset according to manufacturer guidelines, and it simply will not power on. Only buy this if you're looking for a very expensive paper weight.
