Great way to show how shapes change by adding an extra side. Review: A must-read for shape units - I used this book when teaching a 3rd grade lesson on polygons. Throughout the story, as the Greedy Triangle becomes greedier for change, a new side is added to its figure. As the story progresses, you see the Greedy Triangle in its different forms. I appreciate how the author relates each new figure that is presented to figures that are seen in "real life"; the colorful illustrations support this. Eventually, the Greedy Triangle questions if its new figure is indeed a good fit. My students enjoyed listening to this story and they even asked me to put the book back on our class bookshelf weeks after our geometry unit was over. This book is useful to teach math and reading concepts; it's a great way to introduce and review 2D geometry terms as well as teach story elements (characters, setting, etc.).

Be happy with the Shape you are!
This little gem, not only talked about shapes but about being happy with who you are. This little book was fun to read with both of my math classes. They learned their shapes, we had great MATH discussions, and we had wonderful talks about being happy with who you are (not always wanting to be someone else). Thank you for making education fun!

Students in my class love this book!
I work in an inner city school. Believe me when I say that they are a tough group to please! They were absolutely enthralled with The Greedy Triangle! It opened up discussion in the class more than any other book I have read to them this school year. It is colorful, creative and fun. You can have the students use toothpicks and gummy bears to create the greedy little triangle and then change shapes as it metamorphisizes. Food is a great motivator. A fun way to instill a love of both reading and geometry. When the book is over, the kids can be "greedy" and eat their creations. Trust me, they will never forget the lesson.

Very creative!
My 2.5 year old loves this book! I alter my reading pace and do actions since this is a little long for a toddler. Amazing and creative book for encouraging a love for math! He usually requests a second reading.

Great introduciton to shapes and how they can be found everywhere
This book is a great introduction to kids of different shapes and how they are found everywhere in our world. It's a cute story about a triangle who wants to try new things (be objects made of other shapes) so he changes and enjoys new experiences. As he changes the author notes the number of sides he has, the name of the shape he changes into, and explores all of the objects the "triangle" can be in his new shape. In the end the triangle wants to be himself again, so there's the added lesson about loving yourself instead of envying others. The pictures are colorful and the different shapes stand out and have personality. I read this book to first graders before going into a geometry unit, and they just loved pointing out all of the objects in the pictures made of the triangle's new shape. After the story the students were very keen on finding shapes in the classroom. They were really excited to learn about shapes after the story.

Adorable book!
It is a fantastic book to introduce or review polygons with children. As a second grade teacher I used it to have my students review the differences between different polygons. The students created the shapes with geoboards while I read the story aloud. It's very creative in usinging different examples of where the shape could be found in the real world (the triangle's and my favorite spot is when people put their hands on their hips to create a triangle.)

Kindergarteners LOVED this book
I selected this book to read as I was teaching my kindergarteners about various plane shapes. They wanted it read to them again and again. It really brought home the concept of vertices and sides in a concrete and sequential way. All children passed the final geometry exam--most with 90% or 100% scores. In the Tampa, FL area where I teach we are now evaluated more times than I care to think about. I was evaluated twice (by my principal and by a peer evaluator) during this unit of study. The Greedy Triangle was the best lead-in for helping my students remain engaged and learning throughout this geometry study. I highly recommend it for its high interest for all elementary students and teachers.

I have used this book for grade three and now many years later I have purchased it again for Kindergarten students. We love it and have a blast discussing shapes and making our own greedy triangle with hair, eyes, legs and arms.

My son loves maths and this book encouraged him to use his body to make different shapes!

This book was recommended on a recent course I attended on how to use stories to support maths learning. I ordered it and I have not been disappointed. It provides lots of opportunities to discuss the properties of 2D shapes and also consider the shapes of every day objects. This book was thoroughly enjoyed and I will be using it again! It is American but that did not cause a problem!
