Broil King Baron S490 Propane Gas Grill - Premium 4-Burner Stainless Steel BBQ

Absolutely LOVE this grill! I had to purchase a new grill somewhat unexpectedly as my natural gas BBQ (that I paid ~$2k for) would no longer work at my new place. Was pretty skeptical that anything in this price range would be even close to my old grill, but based on other reviews, decided to take a chance. Setup was a bit of a project. The directions are pretty horrible. I had to use the website videos (which were very helpful) to figure it out. But once I got it assembled, it's been amazing. It leaves amazing grill marks with virtually no flareups. I had to adjust to their suggestion to cook most things with the lid closed, but the results have been spectacular. Flavorful meets, evenly cooked, juicy and crispy. I consider myself a good griller, but this grill has made the process much easier with exceptional and predictable results. I really can't recommend it enough (once you get it assembled!)

I did a bit of research to know what makes a grill good. If you have any reservations about this grill, rest assured that this is a quality grill. BTUs divided by square inches of primary cooking surface gives you 90.xx which is a sweet spot. Heats up quick. The grates are good quality cast iron. Holds great heat. The dual sided grates are effective. I keep my grill split. Assembly is required.

Defects in Plumbing: The unit shipped to me was defective. The NG hose assembly, where the hose is crimped to the quick connect appears to have been marred in the factory. The brass is messed up. That I could forgive, but a gash in the hose at the connection means I have a BBQ that leaks NG. Furthermore I am now nervous about any of the internal connections that were pre-assembled. If I choose to have them attempt a replacement I have no confidence that there aren't leaks elsewhere. That is a show stopper. I could really stop the review right here. Construction Quality - Defects Continued: Almost none of the holes line up. Assembling with hand tools will not work as is shown in their online assembly video and instructions. You will need something that can apply a lot more torque at low speeds, and expect to bugger up every thread and screw in the process. The castor holes in particular did not align with the holes in the base and many of the supplied screws had to be driven in at an angle. Yes, assembly was done on a level surface. Assembly Instruction Clarity or Lack Thereof: The print instructions are very unclear. You will want to watch the videos online before you attempt to assemble the grill as they clear up a number of steps. The print instructions included are for the propane version of this grill. There are two bad steps in particular The NG version does not include two parts, the tank holder, which was easy enough to figure out, and oddly enough the cross brace that connects the base to the inside right wall. That cross brace could really be used on the NG version to give it some more stability. As it is, the grill feels a bit unstable. Grilling Quality: I wish I could review this. The BBQ is currently an expensive unusable death trap. Update: I returned the grill to Amazon. That process was as painless as could be expected. Five stars for Amazon customer service.

The grilling experience is great. I was very disappointed with a natural gas conversion on a chair broil grill. The reduction in heating value of Nat gas vs propane made that grill anemic and food did not have that grilled look or flavor. The Broil King does not have that issue at all. It has plenty of heat, heats quickly and cooks uniformly. I am very pleased with the performance. The assembly instructions need a little improvement and the use of sheet metal clips and not screws and nuts seem inappropriate at this price point. I am a little apprehensive with respect to durability at this point. This is the only reason I did not rate it a 5. The cover made for this girl is also much more expensive than most other brands.

This is my second Broil King grill. First one lasted 6 years and the only thing I replaced in the 6 years were the grids after 3 years. First grill was pre assembled, this one arrived in a box and took about 2-1/2 hrs to assemble. Manual leaves a lot to the imagination but referring to the video made things much clearer. Once assembled and rolling to its final place on my patio one if the casters broke. Contacted Customer Service and they are FedExing me a new caster. This grill gets hotter than any of the others I have owned. Great for steaks and fish!

This is a fantastic grill! Was looking for a smaller gas grill to pair with my Webber kettle grill. I reviewed and compared a lot of grills in this category and felt this had a lot to offer. As long as you follow the instructions and season all of the heating and cooking surfaces you will love this grill.

Grill itself perform flawless, however was received with parts slightly bended( not sure if shipment damage) which took about 10 min to fix with pliers. Overall assembly experience was good, manual can be better( ended up using video of assembly from broil king YouTube).

We had issues with delivery and set up and had to have Amazon intervene. The grill is a great size but the rotiseirre did not work. we have contacted broil king and they sent a replacement burner and charged us for shipping on a brand new product. There is no way to replace the burnner without dis assembling the whole grill. It does not seem that the burner wasn't working but is was not getting gas and you can't ignite this feature. In all, I wouldn't purchase this item on line but possibly at your local hardware store, the service would be better.

Pros: Everything aside from the diffusers seem to be good quality. This grill heats up quickly and effectively. Cons: The diffusers appear to be rusting and flaking apart. I'm not impressed with their quality The knob for the 3rd burner from the left is a little sticky compared to the others, but not a deal breaker.

Great BBQ, would recommend to anyone looking to save space, but don't want to give up performance. With folding sides, this BBQ will fit anywhere on your deck or patio and look great too.

Got all the parts and pieces and put it together. Takes just over 2 hours to assemble. Instructions were easy, no problem there. Just did my first BBQ and it turned out perfect. Cooked 2 sirloin steaks and boneless chicken breasts and it was flawless. Can't ask for more so far! I recommend it.
