Picking Apples
Great book. One of my 2.5 year-old favorites. The entire collection (Robin Hill School) is amazing and our daughter has been asking us every day since we bought this book and others in the series to read them to her.

I love this author
I love this author. Always a good short story and easy for my son that just turned 6 to read along. She has many other short stories.

A book about a brat
An easy reader is aimed at younger children, which is why I did not like this book about a moody, bratty boy who refuses to participate in his class's field trip to the apple orchard. No reason is given for his refusal. He finally cheered up at the end when his teacher showed him an apple with the same last name as his (Granny Smith). My daughter couldn't relate to this character at all. Maybe this would be better for a child already dealing with moodiness issues, but the lesson is that if you find something with the same name as you, you'll cheer up. Good luck if you don't share a name with any apple variety. I gave this book 2 stars instead of 1 because while the other kids were having fun, the number of apples each picked was part of the text, so there are many math opportunities (adding, graphing, word problems). But there are plenty of other books with multiple learning opportunities, including social ones.
