Great book about the body for elementary aged children
What a fun book for little ones. This is a board book that covers the human body that is geared for young children. As you open each 2-page spread, you see a title which covers the information on that page. From Taking Care of Your Body, Growing Up, Sickness and Health, Express Yourself, Pumping Blood, Eating and Drinking, Sensing Your World, these are some of the page titles you will see on the top of these sections. So, what will you find? Some two-page spreads, the information is introduction and interesting information and then, on other two-page spreads, the information is deep (lots of information to read and process). For example, the pages on Sensing the World, I thought the information presented was introduction information. They talked about the five senses and what each one does. “You feel things by touching them,” and in the illustrations, they have children touching things and text bubbles beside them, saying how these things felt to them (soft, cold, sharp, rough). If your child is just learning about the senses, this is a good introduction to the senses for them. The rest of this section mentions the rest of the senses and has children giving examples. Yet when I look at the Deep Breaths pages, they talk about how we breathe and give detailed diagrams of the process using words like windpipe, lungs, organs, tubes, pouches, oxygen, and blood. They also show us how our lungs and muscles work when we breathe in and when we breathe out which is very interesting (in 2 diagrams). Children will probably want to try this after seeing this diagram. There are also some interesting facts about breathing with diagrams that children will enjoy. Example: You cough to clear dirt from your lungs. To me these 2 pages are a lot different than the Sensing the Worlds pages.I think this is a great book and I’m glad that I bought it. I like the variety inside it, you don’t have to read it from front to back, you can jump around and read whatever you want. There are lots of diagrams to look at, interesting facts and information to think about. The illustrations are colorful and engaging. A great book. Just because it’s a board book does not mean it’s for babies or preschool children. Fun Fact: You will probably spend more than 22 years of your life asleep.
