Project Planning for the Stage: Tools and Techniques for Managing Extraordinary Performances
C**H
Some Good Info, But Frustrating
It's great to have a book that addresses project management in the context of theater, but this one honestly feels a little half-baked. The author mentions several times during the book that there are other books that explain certain topics better and with more depth-- which is somewhat fair since project management is a huge subject. However, there are still important pieces missing. For example, the author stresses the importance of creating a Project Charter (what might also be known as a plan document), but there are no examples or details of what is actually in this document. I am finding the book useful, but mostly as an overview to point me in a direction. I was hoping for more detailed examples of how things are done in theater, rather than a discussion of why each method is useful for theater. On top of this, the entire chapter on Scheduling uses an example of a person "getting ready for work in the morning--" (e.g. get dressed, make breakfast, brush teeth). I get that this is a simple universal task that everyone can relate to, but it would have been SUPER HELPFUL if the example was from the theater world, since this is a theater book.
