Flower Saver
The net is good for stopping the ball when backboard is raised to full height. It is less effective when the backboard is lowered without a fair amount of work to roll the net up. My kids raise and lower the backboard frequently and just don't bother to roll the net. It still stops a fair number of balls from entering the flower beds behind, so I like it. The water bag was relatively useless on my slightly sloped driveway as all the water ran to one end, leaving the highside unweighted. It also sprung a leak after about a week. That just helped me drain it to put sand in it (3 and a half bags of 50lb play sand). Just a tip if you go this route - spread the sand out on a tarp on a sunny day to COMPLETELY dry it. Sand will then flow much more smoothly through a funnel into the bag.

Keeps the ball out of the bushes
This is a fairly well built net. If I wanted to hang the net from the rim, I wouldn't have any complaints about the installation, but frankly, hanging this net from the rim really limits what you can do with a basketball goal. Great for repetitive free throws maybe, but not so good for playing a half court game or one on one.The Rolbak Net's alternative installation method is to sandwich the goal's support bars between the upper support bars of the Net. The Rolbak is designed to mate with rectangular or square goal support arms, but our Spalding Portable Basketball System - 60" Aluminum Trim Acrylic Backboard uses round tubing instead. There's scant little surface area where the Net's upper support meets the goal's arms, making me wonder how long before the Net's upper support starts to slide down the goal's support rods.Rolbak includes some adhesive backed pads to prevent damage to the goal where the two supports meet. Unfortunately the adhesive is terrible. These pads slid off several times while trying to correctly position the upper support. I ended up reaching for a roll of black electrician's tape to firmly position the pads. Once thusly attached, I was able to clamp everything down well enough to hold the net in place.Having read the other reviewer's comments about whether to fill the tube at the bottom of the New with water or sand, I opted for water. Filling this with sand would be supremely difficult and time consuming. We haven't experienced any leaking to date, and if we do, I imagine the repair patches provided will be adequate to the task of putting things right. There's plenty of fabric in the sleeve containing the water bag to shield the water filled bladder from the pavement. To prevent causing an accidental leak, I would recommend slipping the water bag into the fabric sleeve in an area devoid of sharp objects, gravel, or stone. Do it inside on carpeting and then transfer the net outside for installation and filling.Had this come with a set of u-clamps to more readily facilitate installation on round goal support tubes or been engineered to fit either round of rectangular supports, I'd have given this 5 stars.

Durable and well thought-out
Replaced one that I bought directly from Rolback in 2005 which survived being left out all 11 years through rain, snow, ice, and heat waves. Looks and feels as sturdy with changes mainly in fasteners and base design. I just attach the two bottom ends to anchors at the end of the driveway, net sloping away toward the back. But for more active use and safety as designed choose the type of anchor to suit the environment. Perfect for ball return and keeping them from rolling into the neighbors; just don't run into it or fight for rebounds if you use it as pictured sloping forward.

Net is great for shooting, but leaky tube is no fun
Net works great, however the refillable tube was leaking from day one. Water leaks out of tube in a couple of days. They provide patches for the tube, but since it leaked so quickly I’ll probably just add grommets and bolt it down.

Great IDEA, but not durable...
I purchased the Gold Rolback Net about two and a half years ago. I live in Indiana and therefore store the Rolback net in my heated garage during the winter. This is my problem: regardless of the extra care given to this product, I already have 5 "breaks" in the netting at various locations. I love the product, but I can't afford to replace it for $100, every couple of years. The warranty is only for one year, therefore the cost is on the owner's shoulders.Richard

The concept is good, but the quality of the net itself needs improvement...
It dos what it's supposed to do. However, my son's friend who weighs about 65lbs fell on the net, and the metal pieces that attaches to the end of the rod broke!! I saw an earlier review that mentioned this. Its a piece that's been poorly welded together. Also, part of the net has been ripped thus far. The concept is good, but the quality of the net itself needs improvement.
